Do Techies Lack Environmental Commitment..?

>>It is a fact that Kazhakottam-Kariavattom stretch is becoming a dumping yard.  Household waste, food waste from hotels, and plastic wastes are being dumped there.  Residents of the area do believe major chunk of wastes are dumped by techies.   Recently a major news daily too put the onus on the techies for the menace.  Though the areas display board warning public against dumping waste, the practice continues.

“People carry wastes in plastic covers from their houses in autos and cars and dump it here at night.  Most of the people who throw the wastes here are techies who reside in the city”, says a resident of Kailas Nagar, Kazhakkoottam, the news report quotes.

TechnoparkToday raises a question, do techies dump waste there?  Do we lack environmental commitment?

  1. Techies dump their waste even within technopark waste bins, and one of the incidents we’d seen as a bomb threat in technopark. A techie used to dump his house hold waste in technopark waste bins made the trouble.

Techies are just any other narrow minded trivandumite, and they are not concerned about anybody else. we need strict measures to stop such bad practices.

  2. i totaly agree that many of the Techies are left with the option of dumping the waste in the Technopark waste pin .
The problem has occured since many houses here does not provide any such facility and they are left with option of dumping in technopark waste bins. i dont find any thing wrong in the process as long as they dont dump in public places.

Solution : Trivandrum municipal should make sure that waste are collected from whole municipal area, than collecting waste on the basis of money which is obtained .

  3. Another incident happened near sreekaryam last week. some people were dumping the waste in a road side, where so many houses nearby, everytime the people nearby cleaned them and even put a warning sign board there. but ignoring that, somebody continued to dump the waste.

finally a few people waited there during the night and they caught two techies came in bike and dump their waste. when the people questioned them, one of them ( looks like a gym guy) tried to manhandle. the people gave them a good treatment and informed the police the police instructed the techies to clean up the place, even if the entire waste is not dumped by them. and during a weekend those guys cleaned up the place, and after that nobody seen the waste disposal there.

  4. @Sooraj – This is a topic where the environmental commitment lackness of techies is being discussed and not the measurement of the narrowness of “what was that?? oh…trivandrumite….Iam sure that you are not from trivandrum, you will be from a waste free land in kerala or India, let me guess the place…oops sorry I can’t find one.
Look Mr. this isn’t only the problem in Trivandrum, ok.Have you ever been to Cochin, My friend the situation is 100 times better in Trivandrum , Lets say Cochins are more narrow minded, No no…have you ever been Alapuzha the land of lakes, just spend 10 minutes somewhere in the city side, you will be damned with the smell and god knows what all diseases you may get in that short span, hence Alapuzhaytes are the most narrow minded ones…and the list is still on….Ough…give me a break…
Yes ofcourse the social mentality of some people are so pathetic that we may wonder Why are these people even educated??.All we can do is by showing examples of ourselves.
How we manage our house hold wastes n all.Let the same be spread among our friends and colleagues…It may be a slow start but it is 100% sure that the results will be much much improved than just sitting and measuring the narrowness of minds.
Iam not writing this to insult Cochin or Alapuzha…both of the places are my favourite places, and alapuzha is my favourite place in kerala…I just mentioned because i have felt the same myself in there. But you know these are the facts, and cannot accept the rubbish that Trivandrum is the place where the narrow minded people invented “WASTES”.

  5. Techies are supposed to be more responsible than any other average people around trivandrum. but still they are doing all such nasty things. How can we justify it?

  6. I am a so called techie and i dont throw waste on road because there are ppl who come to my place to collect waste. But that is in city. Unless there is such a waste management mechanism, how would the “techies” who live in 5 cents of land dispose their waste? So, its not the techies to be blamed, but the govt authorities who get paid with our tax money and do nothing, should be blamed for not bringing out any waste management projects.
