How come a software engineer like her found interest in an ancient art form? And where did she get the time to learn it all? Let’s meet Gowri, a software engineer who has been working with the UST Global in Technopark for over two years gave her debut Nangiarkoothu performance just a week back, her friends were taken by surprise.
If you ask the same question, Gouri would reply with a smile. ‘’There was indeed a lot of strain and difficulty. Both were important for me. The weekends were fully set aside for practice,’’.Daughter of K.G.Radhakrishnan, an advocate, and Sreeranjini, who used to be a Bharatanatyam dancer, Gouri, now 24, had interest in dance since her younger days. But serious learning never happened. she used to take part in dance programmes, and later she is interested to doing research on Kathakali.
“And when I learnt that Koodiyattam is even older than Kathakali, I decided to learn more about it. And that interest finally took me to Margi,’’ – Gouri said. After one-and-half years of training under Margi Usha, Gouri gave her arangettam at Margi on March 6.
‘’It was a wonderful experience. There are so many things to learn about Koodiyattam. Its beauty lies in the fact that it is very subtle. Now I hope to do more performancesand even do research in the art form,’’ she said.
She presented ‘Sreekrishnaleela’. ‘’I was very particular about doing that episode.’’.She has made it a point to continue with her profession and passion.
Let’s congratulate this young engineer who is maintaining both the IT and arts with same passion. and let’s wish her all the best in all of her future endeavors.
