“Until we came here, we didn’t know that no workday of Technopark was affected by hartal.” This statement was made by NASSCOM chairman Rajendra Pawar, he was speaking during media interaction after opening its regional office at Technopark.
The fact that Technopark remains uninterrupted during hartal amused the NASSCOM executive members. Â They said that there was negative impression on Kerala as well as Bengal, that must change, they opined. Â Hartals are not just about loosing workdays, it is about loosing trust. Â Once a negative image is formed, it is irreversible, he added.
After visiting the state, three NASSCOM executive council members expressed interest in opening ventures in the state. This includes Aparup Sengupta, MD and Global CEO of Aegis.
Pawar also said he was impressed by the picturesque campus of Technopark, which he earlier believed to be ‘photoshop’ tricks.
NASSCOM president Som Mittal urged the mediapersons to change the perception about IT in the state, just as they promote tourism in the state.
Pawar said the social infrastructure of the state must change to attract more employees. “We cannot generate the entire man-power from within the state. The middle managers must come from other parts of the country.  The state must have facilities to attract them.  There must be better educational institutions for their children and other facilities for their spouses,†he said. There must be better connectivity, be it broadband or transportation, he added.
Setting aside the fears of recession, Pawar said that IT industry had the potential to grow for many decades. “Even during the difficult period from 2000-2010,  the IT industry grew from Rs. 8.2 billion to Rs. 75 billion, which is almost nine times,†he added.
NASSCOM executive members, including IBS chairman V K Mathews, met Chief Minister Oomen Chandy and IT Minister Kunjhalikkutty on Friday. Â They also interacted with students of selected engineering & management institute in Mar Baselios College of Engineering & Technology.
The Technopark office is NASSCOM’s eighth office in the country and arguably its first non-metro office.  Sujith Unni is the in-charge of  NASSCOM regional chapter.

Technopark and Infopark are the two main work places, where the harthal is less affected or not at all affected. Because the people has to work, and they know very well that nothing is gonna happen in harthal days, without some lose for public transport system and some govt assets, and this foolish taxpayers has to pay for those..
“amusing” is not the correct word. that’s derogatory. Appreciation would have been a better description. Your editor needs a bit of polish 🙂
