Own Building for Cyber Police

It seems that the Cyber Police in the State will not have to wait longer for an office of its own! The work on the Cyber Crime Police Station at Thycaud is progressing. It is expected to be completed within two to three months.

At present, the Cyber Crime Police Station functions from a single room of the State Crime Records Bureau office at Pattom. An additional storey for the Cyber Crime Police Station is being built at the Intelligence Bureau’s building at Police Training College compound in Thycaud. The full-fledged office of 2,500 square feet is being set up at a cost of one crore.

The Cyber Crime Police Station, which started functioning in 2009, is the apex investigative agency for cyber crimes in the state.

  1. India must “upgrade” the cyber laws and appoint skilled (not education but knowledge) personnel. As far as I know most people now are working on deputation from other departments.

IT Act of 2000 clubbed with copyright law of 1957 and other minor patches are not strong enough to handle today’s cyber crimes.
