New version of Aakash tablet to be launched in April/May

Here is some good news to “Aakash” enthusiasts. Union Minister D. Purandeswari has announced that the upgraded version of the world’s cheapest tablet would be launched in April or May without hike in price.

The new tablet would be completely indigenous and free of the defects noticed in the earlier version.

The Minister of State for HRD, Kapil Sibal, had earlier commented that there were some “problems” with the original manufacturer Datawind and that the company would not be associated with the tablet anymore.

Aakash tablet is priced at approximately $ 49 (Rs 2,400—2,500).
