Science Camp for the Blind Held with Support of ACIS Technopark

>>Chakshumathi, a Charitable Trust working exclusively for the empowerment of the visually challenged organized the first ever summer science camp for the blind and other visually challenged from 20 to 26 May 2012 at the Kanthari Campus in Vellayaini, Trivandrum, with the support of ACIS, Technopark (a captive offshore facility of Allianz Insurance Co.) and the Kanthari Institute of Social Entrepreneurship, Vellayini.    Over 50 blind and low vision teenage students from all across Kerala actively participated.  The camp was intended to create interest in them to learn various science and technology subjects.  Well known educators from India and abroad, Ms. Sabriya Tenbulkar, Anubhav Mitra, Harish Kotian, Prof. V.K. Damodaran, Dr. R.V.G. Menon, Prof. K. Pappootty, N. T. Nair, Sreedharan Palliyara, Prof. Parvathy Balachandran, Eby Joseph, Vineesh, Sivadasan Madathil and Ranjith R Nair, led the lessons. Day 6 of the camp was devoted to Technology and Innovation and the students were assisted by the GOLD members of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Kerala Section.

Sessions on on fitness, yoga, mobility, games, relaxation, fine arts and other life enriching activities in addition to science classes were held.
