The symbolic installation is commissioned by Allianz to commemorate its 10 years of operations at Technopark.
www.Technoparktoday.Com>> As the New Year ushers in, Technopark gets ready to dedicate a very novel interactive art piece for techies called – ‘Future Alliance’. This state-of-the-art installation – fountain that works purely on solar and human (kinetic) energy, has been commissioned by Allianz Trivandrum and executed by Kerala Innovation Experience (iX). It will be inaugurated by Chief Minister, Shri. Oommen Chandy on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 3 pm.
The installation represents man’s connection to the universe. It depicts nine planets of the solar systems traditionally called ‘Mandapas’ in Kerala, these are represented by bicycles. The bicycles are in turn connected to a different water jet within the fountain. Five sets of hands in the fountain represent the five oceans atop which rest a large globe. By pedalling the cycle, water is jetted into the fountain, which spins the globe. The solar power plan on site powers the LED lights positioned in and around the installation which are switched on with automatic timers to light up the installation at night. The space around the fountain can accommodate over 200-250 people and will be developed as an outdoor venue for techies to meet and hold innovation workshops.
“Future Alliance is a symbolic, interactive artistic installation that is part science and part magic. It is envisaged as a community space and at the same time lays the ground for innovative thought conveying sound messages about renewable energy, water, inter-personal relationships, our world and the universe. The idea germinated by Allianz to us was an added attraction to the pristine surroundings of Technopark. Inspired by the sheer concept, we pledged the space and the necessary support to make this idea into a reality.†said Technopark CEO, K G Gireesh Babu.
Rakesh Gupta, M.D of Allianz Trivandrum states, “Allianz will be completing successful 10 years in Technopark and we thought that developing a public space that provides inspiration for innovation is a befitting way to celebrate our success with the people of Technopark. We would continue to contribute to development of the community at Technopark as we did with Technopark Bicycle Club last year.â€
“Through this installation we propose a playful provocation for Technopark professionals to reflect on the potential for alternative energy at the same time as interacting and participating in an innovative and fun space. The installation has been completely designed by local artisans and we are proud to have achieved a certain artistic brilliance using local and international design styles,†said Amit Passi, Director on Board, Allianz Trivandrum.
“Our vision is to inspire citizens of Kerala to take a lead in social innovation in domains such as clean energy, waste management and creative education. This was an unusual project for the iX team, but we decided to take it up as a fun provocation to reflect on the power of solar power and human power at a time of energy uncertainty,†says Alexei Levene, MD, iX, whose organisation brought the concept to life.
