Union Minister of State for Railways E Ahmed has agreed to develop the Kazhakoottam Railway Station in view of the immense possibilities of turning Kazhakoottam into an IT hub.
The Action Council for the Development of Kazhakoottam Railway Station said in a statement here on Sunday that the Union Minister gave the assurance while replying to the reception accorded at the Kazhakoottam Railway Station the other day as part of the Railway Jana Sambarka Yatra.
Ahmed had assured the Action Council representatives that priority would be given to the modernisation of the station and introducing stops for more long- distance trains, the statement said.
The Minister had visited the station by changing the schedule, following the request from the Action Council, the statement said.
The demands of the Action Council were introduction of stops for Malabar, Vanchinad, Maveli, Amritha, Mangalore and Janasathabthi Expresses at Kazhakoottam. The Union Minister assured the Action Council that he would consider changing the name of the Station to Technopark Kazhakoottam in view of the importance of the Technopark.
The delegation led by Action Council general convener John Venatius also included Technopark DGM K R Ramachandran.
