Day light robbery is taking place in Technopark now a days by auto rickshaw drivers near Technopark especially in Kazhakootam and Karyavatoom auto stands. They always demand double fare for the technopark trips and won’t shut up till they get what they want. It seems there is nobody to control them. Many complaints were registered at the Kazhakkotam police station by Technopark employees, but still there is no change in the attitude of auto drivers .
People who are financially sound have their own vehicles and they are unaware of what Kazhakoottam autorickshaw drivers demand from a passenger for a single trip from Kazhakootam to Technopark.
It’s barely 2 kms from Kazhakootam to Technopark (Bhavani). For a normal trip they are eligible to charge a maximum of Rs.20/- for 2 kms. But here in Kazhakootam, the story is entirely different. They charge a minimum of Rs.30/- and a maximm of Rs.60/-. This is intolerable to an ordinary person.
Things become worse when female employees travel in autos. If the auto drivers find that the passenger is a girl, they start demanding more money. And if the girl is not ready to pay the amount then God knows what abuses in Malyalam she is going to hear from that auto driver.
Auto drivers get more and frequent trips to and from Technopark- literally hundreds of Technoparkians commute daily in this manner. Female employees and North Indians are the main prey of these rude auto drivers. Only Technopark authorities and the Kazhakkootam police can jointly do something to stop this. A better solution is to set up a pay-in-advance ( fixed fare ) auto stand, only then can we put an end to this daylight robbery.
UPDATE : Thanks for the overwhelming response from the readers and valuable comments. Many of them suggested various ways to prevent such robbery. For instance, if an auto-driver demand more money and quarrels with you, just give the money, note down the registration number and file a complaint with the Kazhakootam police station. This is very true and its the girls who suffer the most.I have even seen auto drivers quarelling for more money right in front of technopark securities.Can’t they do anything to help us?Or are they too a part of this mafia.
this is very true, today morning only i encountered the same situation. always they will ask for double fare and they ask for 3 times or more if its monday or friday ( because many people will go home during those days )
the auto drivers behavior towards girls is intolerable in all the sense. they call vulgar even if you pay what they ask.
this is the very high time to put and end for this.
Thanks a lot technoparklive for bringing this issue forward.If the ride is to technopark then you will never find an auto driver turning on the meter.Why dont they understand that there are normal middle class people also working in technopark?IT job is not a rich man’s profession.There are many families relying on their child’s income for supporting the family.Its really sad that the auto drivers are not at all bothered about this.
i am a victim of “the sweet words” from the mouths of the auto drivers…although i have my own vehicle, i sometimes have to take auto to come to technopark..when i am not ready to give the amount that they demand,i always have a bad experience fighting like a local girl infront of the techies and securities..i am scared, when these auto union people will come and kill me for my arrogance for them.
This is a true incident.One day a friend of mine came to visit me in my hostel near the back gate of technopark.She had taken the auto front Karyavattom Campus.On reaching the hostel he demanded for 35 rupees, the normal charge being Rs 15/- max.She had a fight with him.At last when she said that she is not a techie,he immediately reduced the amount to Rs 20/-.Wat more do you need as a proof against their robbery?
this is a big issue we thought of to conveyed to the technopark authorities, because we are not united and nobody has not known how to register a complaint we kept mum during all these time.
thank you technoparklive for publishing this article. this is an issue of girls. boys can fight and bargain with auto drivers.but for girls they will be forced to pay whatever the auto drivers are demanding.

The problem is nobody is resisting them especially the girls. let’s forward this to every employee in technopark. if we united and refused to pay any such fares they will stop demanding it.
This issue has not only been occurring in the Technopark area, but almost all of Trivandrum, especially if you have to go about half km, from the main road into housing colonies or such, leave alone going outskirts of the city.
contacting the media about this especially if they resort to verbal abuse towards the ladies. These autowallas area a pain in the a** all through the state and its not unique to Trivandrum or Technopark.
I would suggest to silently note down the number of such auto rickshaws and post it here. It is ok even if posted anonymously. Let us get united for this. We will give a mass petition against this robbery.

why can’t? blogs are the efficient media to reach out the people very easily. blogs are the only media which can publish the untold stories by the conventional medias like newspapers and channels ( they can be influenced easily by the means of politics and money ). But the individual bloggers cannot.so spread out the news and make aware as much as people as we can.lets fight against such injustice through this effective media called BLOGS

iOk guys now lets do something practical. Lets fix a prize from kazhakootam jn to technopark. and let us decide we will pay only that much. If they ask for more let us get the fellow people nearby you when you are paying and protest.
Just think there must be at max 50 autorickshaw valaas. How many employees are there in technopark. Morethan 10000. If 10000 cannot do something to put a stop at 50 people’s loot, then I think we are no good. let us be together.
There would be problems at the beginning. But things will come our way.

I would say Rs 20 would be a good deal for both parties from kazhakootam jn to technopark.
Also Rs 30 would be good from police station to technopark.

Yes we are lacking of unity, so others are taking advantage because of that.

Dont blame the whole auto driver community for the misbehaviour of a few..i agree there are a few..as in any field.Peole must have a fare idea about the minimum fares..i think from kazhakootam to Main gate or gayathri,Rs 15 to 20 is reasonable.For tejaswini and bhavani..it can be max 25 or 30 ..i think…i am not sure..so if they ask for more, just refuse and if they misbehave just pay the money and note down the Reg no.I think the police is pretty strict at these matters…a mass movement will surely awaken the police..

I dont think there would be much change in attitude by filing complaint at local police station as these Auto drivers often work as binamis for corrupt Police officers in the region. Most of the vehicles running as Autos would be owned by policemen or their relatives and these cuprits have their backing. What should be done is to raise public awareness and complaint to higher autorities and even to the miniters themselves. Technopark authorities should seriously consider setting up prepaid travel from Inside the park which can be booked online or via mobile so that we can have a safer means of travel. Also women should make sure they do not travel alone after sunset. Even though Kerala is a safer place, its getting dirty as years passby We can find a lot of North Indian young girls travelling alone at nite. This attacts culprits more.
not hundrad, thousands of people are travelling in autos to/from technopark. remember there are 15,000 + employees are working in technopark today. and 1/3 of them having their own vechicles. all others are depending on the public transport systems / company transportation.
in public transport, it will up to kazhakkottam only. so everyone will be forced to catch an auto from there or karyavattom jn. so this is a very serious issue needs to be taken care of.

It is a terribly useless site where you can post a complaint and wait for eons for anything to happen. You can follow up on the complaint and you will notice that the complaint has not been seen by even the control room. How then, do you expect a complaint to reach your local police station, which in this case might be Kazhakuttom?
The Police website is good if you want to trade your ego over religion and politics…at their Discussion Forum!
Please do not waste time awaiting action thru this website. Rather, give a mass complaint to KZM police station. Let us hope something works, since KZM is known for its high level of corruption.

In this situation, the police have stated that you need to note down the auto number and call 1090 and register your complaint. The excess amt. will be returned.

For example, I have requested them to control the wreckless driving of KSRTC and other buses on NH, but they seem to ignore it.

It’s been very difficult for the technopark employees to hair auto from kazakootam junction to technopark now a day. Here is my incident.
I haired an auto today morning and came to Tejaswini building. In between I saw one of my friend and I offered him a lift. When we reach Tejaswini as usual I give him 25RS and he refused to take it. He demanded 30 Rs. We refuse to give him and he immediately started using filthy words and started harassing us. Even we give him 30Rs he continued scolding us. The most difficult part of the story is even though there where more than 3 securities present none of them responded or helped us. Even after we requested help from them.
They were staying and watching all this as a movie. I thing they are appointed only to check our ID cards. We have forwarded a complaint regarding this to technopark. We have to raise our voice against this. One more interesting fact is most of the autos don’t have Trip meter, driver permit or anything and they are starting their journey just a few meters from the Kazakootam Police station. The police is not at all checking these auto or doing anything.
How about technopark officials get in touch with appropriate authorities RTO,drivers and get the auto-rates for technopark from major points and have the rates fixed and sealed by sign and printed distributed .Also have another one pasted near the gate

It would be nice if we can publish both day and night charges and return charges for short distances and waiting charges.
Auto charges set by govt
Minimum hire charges Rs. 10 (for a distance of 1.25 kms) and Rs. 6 per kilometer after the minimum and 50 ps for every 1.5 kms
Taxi
7.50 per kilometer (both petrol and diesel) subject to a minimum of Rs. 50 for 3 kms.
Air conditioned taxi cabs can demand 10% more
Waiting charges
Autorickshaws – Rs. 5 every 15 minutes subjected to a maximum of 200 Rs per day
Taxi cabs – Rs. 25 per hour subjected to a maximum of Rs. 300 per day.
A good bus with a few seats, the rest for standing techies/guests, can be run from the entrance to all points within the campus. On a continuous basis, charge for entry Rs2/- or something like that. The bus shd leave when full or when no other people are expected from the entrance; or some kind of timing shd be printed. This requires some quick planning frm the Technopark authorities. As for the police or govt to act on the autos, forget it, they simply dont hav the balls.
