KSCSTE teams up with Calicut University for Science Congress

TechnoparkToday.com – The Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) has joined hands with Calicut University in preparing for the upcoming Kerala Science Congress to be held in Wayanad.

A meeting, attended by KSCSTE Executive Vice President Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai, Calicut University Vice Chancellor Dr Abdul Salam, Science Congress Convenor Prof George Varghese and the principals of colleges under the university, discussed the organisation and strategies for the event.

The 26th edition of the Kerala Science Congress will be held in Kalpetta, Wayanad, from January 28-31, 2014. The Wayanad-based Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is hosting the three-day event.

“Calicut University has pledged its full support to KSCSTE for organising the programme. We hope to make the Kerala Science Congress one of the biggest events of the year in north Kerala,” said Prof Rajasekharan Pillai, who is in Kozhikode to coordinate preparations for the event.

University Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Raveendranath and former registrar Dr M V Joseph were present at the meeting which reviewed the various committees constituted and tasked with making arrangements for the science congress

The subject areas covered by the 26th KSC include Agriculture, Fisheries and Veterinary Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Sciences & Technology, Earth System Science & Geo-informatics, Engineering Science, Information Technology & Computer Science, Environmental Science including Forestry & Wildlife, Health Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Science and Society, Mathematical Sciences, Science Teaching and Science Education, Regional Science & Science Policy

The theme of the upcoming Science Congress is “Traditional Knowledge”. Special sessions, talks and paper presentations will be held on the subject.  Dr Govinda Verma, Director, School of Folklore Studies, will coordinate the theme shows depicting traditional scientific practices in the country.

All science articles presented at the KSC in Malayalam language will be published in print form.

Prof P Balaram, Director IISc Bangalore; Dr Srikumar Banerjee, former chairman  Atomic Energy Commission and Vice Chancellor, Central University, Jammu; and  Dr Nanditha Krishna, Director CPRF,  Chennai, will deliver the G N Ramachandran,  Dr P K Iyengar, and E K Janakiammal memorial lectures respectively.
