A Braille Letter – a Socially Relevant Short Film from Technopark

Braille letterTechnoparkToday.com>> November 15, 2013:  ‘A Braille Letter’, a short film made by Manu S Kumar, deals with a widely debated topic in Kerala.  Set in the backdrop of controversy around a proposed airport project in the state, the film raises questions about destruction of environment in the name of development.

‘A Braille Letter’ narrates story of a serene village through the view point of a visually challenged girl.  She was blind by birth and she hasn’t seen the beauty of nature at her own village, but she is aware of the beauty of her village. Hence she decides to deal with the situation in the way she knows.

The 15-minute short film is in a docu-fiction format, and covers beautiful paddy fields, rivers and fertile land which may get vanished anytime for ‘development’.   Brilliant use of sceneries and graphics has added visual impact to the short film.

While a number of short films are getting uploaded in YouTube on a daily basis, Manu’s effort stands out due to the seriousness of the topic.

Manu S Kumar is an employee of UST Global and his previous short film, Jalam, won the best short film award in Qisa short film festival 2012, held in Technopark.

  1. The short film has succeeded in invoking the feelings. Why should we support unwanted development to abuse our nature. These developments are meant for real estate mafia. We have to preserve our nature, our trees, paddy fields.. We are not in need of an Airport now. We need fresh air, fresh water, and fresh food…!!!

  2. A very thought provoking short film. We are destroying our nature and its eco-system in the name of development, but the nature will take revenge on the humans for that in the form of flood and other kind of disasters.

  3. In light of aranmula airport issue – this is a very socially relevant topic. its an eye opening short film. we are responsible for protect our nature and the paddy fields. Manu, you did a wonderful job. keep going.
