TechnoparkToday.com>> March 18, 2014: After alighting from Volvo bus, I was slowly walking towards Bhavani buildings, I spotted a new vehicle. It was little bigger than an autoriksha , may be a 6 seater. It was white in color, I saw few techies as well checking it out. I was quick to realize that it is one of the electric vehicles technopark has purchased.I have seen them in airport and in railway station. Electric breed of vehicles does not pollute environment as it runs on battery. It just works well with theme of “harmony @ work” , the tag line of technopark.
Carbon foot print of the vehicle will be just that of electricity consumed and production of it’s parts. There will not be any greenhouse gas emission from that vehicle. Many dignitaries who visit, technopark gets going inside campus in these vehicles. I was appreciative of the vision of technopark authorities.
I was on my way to Bhavani foot court and after having my breakfast. When I went to place the soiled plates, I could see a big stack of disposable plastic glasses. I was sure that those stack of glasses is not going to any treatment plant. There was no sign of segregation of waste at source as well. It will go to some city neighborhood and will get converted to toxic gases. Thiruvanthapuram is infamous for it’s plastic burning at streets. I was thinking what could be done here.
Can’t we reduce plastic waste we generate by using reusable glasses, can’t we show the wisdom to ban disposable plastic in technopark? Solid waste should be treated here and should be used to light few CFL’s. It will serve as an excellent example for entire industry of kerala to emulate. My reflections concluded as “A waste treatment plant and banning of disposable plastic are essential steps for deepening Harmony of technopark with nature”.
Let us be hopeful and raise our voice for the same.
