Fake call from SBI Cards – DONOT SHARE Your CONFIDENTIAL DATA

TechnoparkToday.com>> Rising number of fraudulent calls in the state posing to be a serious threat; majority of the targeted audience are SBI customers. The caller informs that he/she is from dispatch team of SBI or any other reputed bank and prior to dispatch of a new/renewed debit/credit card, they would need to verify the communication address.

In case the person hesitates to share the communication address, the caller moves on to the next question (which they claim to be part of the verification/confirmation) which is requesting the 16 digit Debit/Credit card number. If a concern is raised in sharing the information, they try to convince stating that the card details are required as part of verification prior to renewal/issuance of the new debit/credit card. Over the past couple of months many techies have been prey to such fraud calls.

Team TechnoparkToday identified that most of these callers were based out of Delhi. In an instance, when the investigation team rang back to one of the phone numbers for the fraud SBI dispatch they stated that “We are direct Bank Employees and we never ask any of our Customers their Card Details’.

Techies need to be cautious and aware about such fraudulent calls. Never provide any confidential/sensitive information including Card Number, PIN, PAN card number, OTP and Personal details over the phone.

“Bank would never contact any of their customers, to get such details over the phone. In case the bank would require any supporting documents related to your account, they may contact and request to submit copies of the same at the home branch or via email to bank’s genuine email address. People using Netbanking or Mobile Banking are the most affected. People should be aware of other frauds like lottery & multimillionaire messages, that are trending” – says Anil Kumar P (Asst Commissioner of Police).

If someone gets such repeated calls, the incident has to be reported at the local police station immediately. Techies can report such incidents at Kazhakootam Police Station (0471 2418231) or Thumba Police Station (0471 2563754).
