The Karthumbi Umbrellas now available at Technopark

The Karthumbi Umbrellas promising shade of solace for Attapadi mothers is now @ Technopark. Let us have Karthumbi umbrellas for this rainy season.

TechnoparkToday.com(April, 2017):Karthumbi (http://karthumbi.com/) – Attapadi’s own brand is trying to conquer the umbrella market. This venture became a reality by training 50 tribal mothers in umbrella making, the materials for this was imported from Korea. This season they are planning to train around 300 women. Prathidhwani, the socio-cultural organization of IT employees is planning to present this venture to the society which gives shade of solace to mothers from Attappadi.

Karthumbi sells 3 fold umbrellas which are at par with the other umbrellas in the market. The price of an umbrella is Rs 350/-. Prathidhwani is planning to distribute umbrellas by May 24, 2017 at Technopark. The presales coupons for the same are available now at Rs. 100/-.  The rest of the amount Rs. 250 /- can be given at the time of delivery. Those who are interested please buy your coupons before April 28. The umbrellas are available in different colors – black, red, light blue, and many more as shown in the pictures. If particular about any color, do mention it while purchasing pre sales coupon.

Karthumbi brand was started with the joint support of Tribal voluntary organization ‘Thambu’ and the social media initiative “Peace Collective”. The collective is now making umbrellas branded Karthumbi across the State. Team Karthumbi plans to bring the tribal society to the forefront by uplifting their pride and confidence. Thus, it is our responsibility to extend our help to this venture.

During 2016, team had manufactured around 1000 umbrellas by collecting capital from17 people.

Apart from repaying the loans, each tribal working woman was able to earn a daily wage of Rs.500-700. Owing to such a great start, the confident team has obtained capital through loan and is planning to sell around 15,000 “Karthumbi” Umbrellas in the beginning of the season itself.

This Rainy season, when we plan to buy umbrellas for our children or for ourselves, let us decide to opt for Karthumbi brand, which will be a helping hand to the struggling women and kids of Attapadi, who fight for their survival. The women who are part of this venture never used an umbrella even once in their life. “We used to hide behind shade while it rains, we hope that his new start will change our lives.” says Trainer Lakshmi Unnikrishnan. Two years ago, this housewife from Dasanoor Village who was trained in umbrella making started training the other women in her village.
