ICON plc commissions its new office in Technopark

ICON Plc, the global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries, today commissioned its new development centre at the Leela Infopark building in Technopark campus in Trivandrum. ICON Clinical Research Executive Vice President Malcolm Burgess PhD inaugurated the 20,000 sq.ft new office.

ICON specializes in strategic development, management and analysis of programs that support clinical development from compound selection to PhaseI-IV clinical studies. Headquartered from Dublin, Ireland, the company has presence in 14 countries in Asia Pacific – Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. In India Trivandrum is the third centre after Bangalore and Chennai. Globally, the company is operating in 70 locations in 38 countries and has around 7,100 employees.

ICON has conducted a wide range of clinical studies across all therapeutic areas in Asia-Pacific, and has particular expertise in managing oncology, cardiovascular, CNS and metabolic disorder trials in the region. Current studies range from small local trials to pan-Asia-Pacific and large global programs and are supported by two fully-owned ICON central laboratories, strategically located in Singapore and Bangalore, India. ICON has a clinical research division in Chennai which is the third largest division in the world.

“It is not for reasons of cost alone but also the impressive levels of quality and productivity that we have seen in our Chennai office that has led us to open this office in Trivandrum. We have many expansion plans for our Technopark office. Presently we have provided full-fledged training to a total of 50 employees here and within six months we will take another 20,000 sq.ft. space in the campus and increase our workforce to 300. Our aim is to increase the use of the ICON offices in India as part of our international and integrated delivery capability, as we see India being imperative to competing in our marketplaces and we will continue to invest in our Indian business accordingly.” Said Malcolm Burgess in his inaugural address.

We see the continued expansion in India as furthering our ability to provide high quality pharmaceutical services.” He added.

Technopark CEO Mervin Alexander and Senior Manager -Business Development M Vasudevan represented the Park at the inaugural function along with ICON Vice President S Sivakumar, Head- Trivandrum office of ICON R Sathyanarayan, Leela Infopark CEO Jayakumar and other officials of ICON.
