KSRTC Seeks to Extend Low Floor Bus Services

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has decided to extend low floor bus services to the State’s suburbans and submitted a proposal to this effect before the government.

The new  fleet of 20 non-air conditioned semi-floor buses and 10 air-conditioned low floor buses that it received from the Union Ministry of Urban Development under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) might soon begin to ply to areas outside the cities of Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.

KSRTC  plans to operate the low floor buses to Neyattinkara, Kattakada, Nedumangad and Attingal in Thiruvananthapuram district. In Kochi, the proposal is to operate these buses to  Muvattapuzha, Piravom and Kolenchery.

The major purpose behind extending low floor bus services is to encourage the use of public transport system among citizens.

KSRTC  has been concerned with the poor response to low floor buses in Thiruvananthapuram, despite extending the service to Technopark.  On the other hand, there is excellent demand for the services in Kochi with  requests to extend the operation to more areas.
