Friday’s hartal was for a good cause – to ban Endosulfan, but end does not always justify means. The rude behaviour of pro-hartal activists has taken the spirit out of the cause. A group, in the name of hartal, has targeted Technopark on Friday. In the morning, they blocked the Technopark convoy. Though escorted by police, the employees had to wait for more than half-hour get them ‘released’ by the hartal activists.
The employees travelling in the bypass route too have been harassed. They specifically targeted Technopark employees and let off others. They allegedly said that they usually let techies go, but this time they won’t. “A man working as driver in a Technopark company too was among them”, a techie said.
Why is it not taken to higher officials. Industry friendly government need to take action on those. I don’t think political leaders know how critical IT support is? Someone need to let them know.
At last they showed their character.
This is the attitude of Trivandrum people. Neither they will grow, Nor they want others to grow. Even when techno park is providing them indirect employment, they strike, block and if possible close technopark. Many trade union goonda leaders are envy of technopark like industry, running without any labour problems. They will never miss an opportunity to create labour problems. Now that the govt is not functioning, they have used opportunity.
Localities ( living in kariyavattom, kazhakuttom, manvila, sreekaryiam) are not supporting the growth of technopark.
Had it been our Madurai, Coimbatore, IT companies (established in technopark), would have thrived. Madurai, Coimbatore and other cities of Tamil nadu, are relatively free from labour problems. Bandh, hartal are always seen as a destructive activity.
Even under adverse conditions, they provide best serivces.
It is surprisng to see driver who works for technopark, have also participated in the harrassment. The company engaging him should withdraw his contract immediately.
@Selva
About the absence of labour problems in Tamilnadu, you have to understand one thing. This people do not have any idea about their rights. That is the same reason why they allow the worst corrupt politicians in world to rule them. They can easily sell their votes for 5000 RS, Mixy, Grinder or washing machine. Of course, Kerala has some occasional hartals and related problems, but we have shown the existence of our spine. See what was happened on Stockholm Convention, it was the success of a group of human right activists and politicians in Kerala over the mighty politicians and industrialists.
Nowadays, the trend is to support antidemocratic and apolitical movements (see what happened to Hazar’s agitation) when our politicians are engaged in fight for a noble cause, it rarely get the support to that level.
@skumar
LOL…….”See what was happened on Stockholm Convention, it was the success of a group of human right activists and politicians in Kerala over the mighty politicians and industrialists.”…LOL
I can’t stop laughing…
Better not to say anything about technopark cab drivers. I’m not saying everyone in them are troublesome, but many of them. the native people in trivandrum is not trustworthy, and whenever they get a chance they will ‘THEPPU’ in their own language.
These drivers and indirect employees of technopark is not at all supporting any of the technopark initiatives. these stupids are not even thiking that the technopark and its related industries are giving them the money for their daily bread.
Whatever the reason is, the entire TECHNOAPRK never supports any of the strikes or harthals in kerala. People needs to work to meet their commitment to the clients, and remember the clients are not like the poor kerala govt. their projects needs to be completed on time and on budget. otherwise they will give the job to other places in indian itself.
So the Harthal supporters and activists, TECHNOPARK wont support you. and techies too..

@selva
I understand you emotions and support the spirit of your post. As a Malayali I accept that we have take labour rights to a extreme while ignoring duties as an employee. However on this and many other blogs I have seen regionalism emerge which I don’t think helps us any. It isn’t just TN v/s KL. On another blog I noticed Trivandrum v/s Cochin. So i do not accept that part of your post.
@skumar
The negative attitude of the very people benefiting from Technopark is not anything new. Bite the hand that feeds you seems to be the mantra. People would rather stop this project that provides direct and indirect benefit to well over a lakh people and go back to relying on the Gulf etc. Perhaps the people who oppose it have alternate means of earning by hook or crook but an opportunity to earn decent income on the level is priceless. Yes, we don’t have a problem with harthals – those who want to participate can do so – but those who do not want to – their freedom and decision has to be respected too – that is all most of us are talking about. Freedom of decision has to be given. Else what is the difference between the British Raj and Free India?
@Sekhar,
Thanks for sharing the information about that person, who is working in technopark, and earning his bread, and working against the technopark, and threatening its employees to go for work.
Harthal is Bandh itself, which is banned by the court. And Its up to the people to decide whether to participate or not. and nobody have the right to question or stop anyones freedom. Its upto every individual to decide to work or not. These Harthal people wont feed anyone, if they loose one days income.
So What we can do against such people? since we know that guy, its upto the companies and people to decide. That company can stop the service of that guy. and it would be a lesson to others too…Biting on the feeding hands is not a good practice.
Anybody knows for which company he is working?
I would rather not target any individual. It is a matter of changing a mindset. Action against a specific person would simply be putting ammunition into the hands of harthal supporters. So please let it slide. Change is never a wholly easy or smooth process – we have come a long way since the old days when violence and strike enforcement was brutal. If you have friends among drivers who are friends with this person getting them to talk to him to modify his method of protest would be a much better approach.
Mr. santhosh visawanath and his car (driver responsible for stopping the technopark vehilce) on band) should not be allowed enter into technopark premises.
Whole of technopark employees rally against Mr. Santhosh. Technoparktoday and other forums, should urge technopark officials to impose the ban on him.
Shibu, Diplomacy is always good, but not to such kind of people.
So it would be a lesson to everyone who support such attitude. It can be well understood if somebody who is not associated with technopark. but this fellow, who is earning his bread from technopark is simply bites the feeding hand.
Such people should keep away. who knows whether he do something harmful to the company and its employees, if something he think which is not according to his ideologies? such people are really sick and keep away from us.
Good to see people are identifying the fake coins and isolating them. such an attitude should be there among us.
Hartals are the only pending methods for these un-educated political parties to get-in to the Technopark.
One side leaders yelling for “IT Parks” and other side their people trying to spoil the same. What is this if it is not ‘politics’.
All for living. What else.
