Kanji-puzhukku mela At Kovalam Tourist Village

Kovalam Tourist Village, Vellar, which is taking its first steps after it was opened a couple of months back, is all set to spread out a lavish treat for foodies who love to binge on ethnic dishes. Come Friday, it will host a three-day-long `kanji-puzhukku’ mela (ethnic food festival) at the Tourist village, which has been hailed as a cultural-commercial-leisure destination for tourists

For those who think what is so much in a kanji or puzhukku, the fest has 10 types of kanji (porridge) and 25 types of puzhukku. Well, that’s a rich and diverse spread of ethnic cuisines, for sure. Porridges will be prepared with milk, butter, fenugreek, cumin seed, wheat, oats, and crushed rice while various types of grains, pulses and vegetables will be mixed and blended to create over two dozen tastes in puzhukku. It’s not all, different kinds of fish, prepared in various tastes, would be served. Adding to the ethnic taste are the varieties of sweetened rice, seven types of amla (Indian gooseberry) juice, 25 kinds of pickles, steamed rice and more.  Apart from the food festival, there are more reasons for one to drop in at the Vellar Tourist Village this weekend. The Kudumbashree is putting up stalls packed with handicrafts, bamboo and cane furniture, select products of its units and also vegetables for exhibition and sale.
