TechnoparkToday.com>> The ongoing work to widen national highway from Kazhakuttom to Karode is turning the road into an accident hotspot. The number of accidents in the stretch has an exponential growth ever since National Highway Authority of India started the work.
The NHAI work has ignored road safety norms which make it mandatory to have proper barricades, markings, and reflectors for various constructions. However, even in the busiest stretch like Kazhakuttom –Akkulam the construction of drainage happened without proper safety precautions, that resulted in accidents involving various persons including techies.
Due to absence of street lights, motorists complain that it is difficult to see the dividers and other hindrances on the road. Things are expected to turn worse with the onset of monsoon.
The Bypass-Kulathoor junction is a nightmare for commuters. Eight roads converge at this junction. In the absence of proper traffic signage and traffic police, accidents frequently occur in this place. Recently a two-wheeler rider, who was hit by a lorry, died on the spot.
As things are unlikely to improve till the end of construction work, motorist are advised to be careful while driving through this stretch.
