Another company in Techno park, Collabera Solutions, a software development center has issued pink slips to a number of employees yesterday following the global recession.Just a month back one of the most reputed software companies in Technopark started layoff process by issuing pink slips to a number of employees.
the management of the Collabera Enterprise Software Solutions has denied the reports that the job cuts took place because of Global recession and said the action came after the review of annual performance report.
But see one of the mails sent by an ex-employee of collabera to TechnoparkToday
“layoffs not only in IBS its also there in collabera enterprise software solutions, technoparki’m an ex collaberian who lost the job in the name of global recession. this incident happened on 19th of this month. yesterday HR people called us for a meeting and said thet they are going through tough times and due to the global recession they are not getting the business as usual, and because of that they gonna give us the relieving certificate. they also told us to sign a resignation letter (the letters were already prepared by them). Collabera gave30 minutes time to clear off from the premises.according to my knowledge they laid off around 20 employees.among these employees majority of us joined collabera 6-10 months back. Now i dont know why they are linking this with the performance report”
Real Story Unrules here.
IVL was a well managed SAP company since its inception in 1990’s.It was acquired by collabera in ealry 2008,there started its bad phase.
IVL used to take freshers and used to charge amounts varying from 1.5 lakhs to 2.5 lakhs as a deposit . if the employee completes 3 year with the company, apart from a ceratin minimal amount ,the remaning amount they used to pay back at the end of 3 years.
But now what collabera management is doing is that they are forcefully taking the resignation from the employees without any guarantee about the money deposited there.
In normal case if employees resigining before 3 years company is not entitled to pay back the money.
So the procedure of sacking is that they call the employee to a seperate room and tells him/her thay are going to lay off him/her and they will give paper and pen to you.You have to write the letter as per they tell.So what happens employee is loosing his job as well as money theyhad deposited there.Company management is not at all ready to give any guarantee when, how, how much money they will return to the sacked employees..
there are people who had left their good jobs and joined the company, believing the company. Now all of them are in trouble.
Fewmonthsback there was one another company “Aryans Infoway”whose owner absconded with the money of the employees.Because he knew that it was case of fraud. But Collabera management is doing the same infront of everyone without any fear.Even its a law there that no company should take money for employement inside technopark.
Company is telling that they had laid off employess on the basis of performance? But let us ask you how did you rate the people who were in the training period(those who have joined 6 months back). Not even a single one of them was retained. Even in the period of tarining itself company judged that all of them are useless. This judgement HR people were not able to do during the recruitment phase?????
Recently lot of people resigned from the company. So all of a sudden company came forward with an incentive offer and also some of them will be sent to US for projects. Finally one fine day morning the same people cancelled all of their offers (incentives as well as abroad projects). These all things happened in a period of 1 month.
All these are happening when big techies like infy, mindtree,HCL,Wipro looking for a SAP based companies in this recession time to take forward and safeguard their revenues. But here see what collabera is doing?
It looks like a “Korangan with a Poomala”
Now you decide how fare is this. Its high time that IT employes should have a union but not on the basis of politics. Its high time we need to repond unitedly to this kind of injustice/fraud.
Authorities have to look into this very urgently.
Collabera sacking employees= Collabera axeing its own foot.
Your employees are your wealth.Their sweat and blood was/is there for each and every step company moved forward.Mind it….
Hearty condolences for the incidents happened to you.
But I have difference in opinion about some of your views. It has been told from long back that not pay money to any company for job. This is even published by the technopark authorities. Lot of news coming in media about cheating. This is another form. Still people are going after it, and getting into trouble. Are this people have commonsense? We cannot blame companies, how this fools perform well in a job where logical skills and commonsense is very much required? If anybody have given cash to companies and get into troubles it’s their fate, let them face it.
Union is not at all the solution for this. Every union is created with great aim, but what happens later we all know. There is no point in repeating the same mistake again and again. No need to feed the ugly politicians from our pocket.
Being into IT industry we all know that IT demands a high risk high benefit type of work culture. You should be in a position to find another job at any time. Always update your skills and ready for an interview at any time. If you cannot face situations like this, say goodbye to IT sector, try to get a government job (That also not an easy task now a days). Or start your own business (you might succeed if unions not attack you).
Friends, there are problems everywhere. Our intelligence and hard work helps us to win. Companies are facing financial problems, this is a fact. No use in going after people who make use of you(Politicians, media etc ) and waste your time. Rather try hard, try to get a new job. There are still lot of opportunities in this industry and it will be there all the time.

>> IVL used to take freshers and used to charge amounts varying from 1.5 lakhs to 2.5 lakhs as a deposit .
No Comments. You pay this because you need a job and you are ready to give the money. Since one singend the documents, he/she cannot cry after that.
>> Company management is not at all ready to give any guarantee when, how, how much money they will return to the sacked employees..
Victim need to ask the company. If not positive, go legally. We all are with you.
>> Now all of them are in trouble.
Cannot comment without knowing the frequency. Loosing job of 2-3 people will not affect all employees of a company with 100 employees.
>> Fewmonthsback there was one another company “Aryans Infowayâ€whose…
I think it is too early to compare ‘Aryans Infoway’ with Collabera/IVL. Till now Collabera is a reputed company with good history. We must try to help not only the employees, but also the company. We have title ’employee’ because there is one ‘company’.
>> Company is telling that they had laid off employess on the basis of performance? let us ask you how did you rate the people who were in the training period
Yes, we need clarification on this point.
>> Finally one fine day morning the same people cancelled all of their offers (incentives as well as abroad projects).
Not good to discuss here. Official matters. They may have their own reasons. As an employee we are obliged to do what they ask one to do. It is a normal clause in the offer document.
We need to cope with the this difficult time. Here are my thoughts.
* We are going through a tough recession period. Most companies have salary cuts, layoffs happening because of this.
* If you think you are working hard and company is getting something because of you… – your job is safe.
* Even if it is not a ‘recession issue’, kicking out less performers is a usual thing in private companies. One must read the contents carefully before sign the job offers. It may not be ‘less performing’, you may be a ‘problem’ for them also.
* Most companies value ‘dedication’ rather than ‘what you know’. So there is no point in I know 3+ technologies, I have 5+ experience etc.
* Even if one is working for a 1000+ employed company, you are closely watched by ‘somebody’. ‘Performance’ always depends on the output of your work, behaviour in the workplace, etc.
The move of the IBS management to sack 27 employees, on the grounds of poor performance, had kicked up a major ruckus in the state. Following this, the State Government had appointed a six-member committee to look into the issues plaguing the IT industry.
Collabera and McFydne, sources said, have not consulted the committee before taking the decision to lay-off the employees. Both the companies say that the decision was made solely on the basis of performance. It has got nothing to do with global recession, officials of both the companies maintain.
The State Government, in the wake of the IBS lay-off, had declared that it would not allow such anti-labour moves.
What can the State govt. do in these situation other than make populist statements…”Will not allow such anti-labour moves”
Will they pay the salaries of those being laid off? Companies are laying off employees bcos they do not have the revenues to support their salaries….Other than making populist statements and trying to scare potential investors in the state, these politicians cannot really do anything..
Wait a minute…I know what they will do…HARTAAL …BANDH!!!!!….Prevent those who have a job to go to work……
Will these so-called politicians at least help us find jobs in the “EVER GROWING” Kerala market? No, bull they can. Will you then at least stop scaring away investors?
dear media, please get a life. stop hyping non-issues. if we came to you to help us find jobs, would you do it? no, you can’t. so back out, we don’t need your help.
go find more santhosh madhavans or doggie chief minsters.
In the case of collabera, if they had taken money from employees in the name of training, they MUST pay back the money when sending the employees away. It will be illegal otherwise, and also grossly unfair. Any employee who has not been paid the money back should formally write to CEO Technopark who can mediate for the employees.
As a general principle, people should not pay money to get an IT job. Companies which ask for money from candidates may not be right comapnies to join, and you are taking a risk, and you should know this before taking the decision.
These are difficult times and companies will have to, as a last resort, let go people to survive, and protect the remaining jobs. Usually, they select staff who are realtively poor performers when taking the decision to send out staff.
In IT, employees can leave as they wish, and so also employers by paying the notice pay,and one can not ask for job protection. It is not there anywhere in the world. Jobs are not safe when the economy gets worse as it is today. But the job market will pick up again, and hopefully soon, and therefore, lets not bash up companies unnecessarily. If there are no companies, there will not be any jobs.
People always hate to talk about when they are laid off. But as it has become every day’s news headline since Yahoo started it with cutting 1500 of its task force last year, now a need of platform has been in demand where people can express their selves in words how they are feeling about their company, whey the got laid off was that justified or not.
And every thing they want to tell anonymously. And http://www.layoffgossip.com is providing you that platform.
Let me give a clear idea abt the lay offs in collabera..
On 19 th of this month they laid off around 20 employees. This include employees from different teams like domain, basis etc. Collabera has two offices in technopark one in thejaswini and the other in nila.Employees in Nila dont know wht is happening in thejaswini and vice versa.from nila, around 10 employees are being laid off in the name off recession.Among them there were persons who joined 4 months back through campus placement.
Now the company officials told media that they laid off the employees due to the bad performance. All those who joined 4 month back are now out of the organisation(they disbanded the whole batch who joined 4 months back).why…?”a full batch of non performers”, is this the reason behind lay off?????
For the domain team, thr was a 3 yr bond and those who break this needs to pay Rs 1 lac as bond amount. They hadn’t collected any money from the domain batch.
On 19th HR people hold a meeting with us and told that they are doing this only bcoz of the global recession and they selected us for dismissal because we were the least experienced and there was no other criteria for selection. They even told us that it is not bcoz of the poor performance. But when the media asked them the reason behind the layoff they simply said that our performance is not upto the mark.
If our performance was not so good then they could have told the same reason in the meeting .why they changed the reason when they spoke to the media person.”We are parting as friends not as enemies” the Dialogue from the HR person in the meeting.
They gave us 2 months salary as compensation
When ever sacking occurs we(employees) software techies will conclude with a statement that it may be due to the performance issues only it happened. And will be our self satisfied as this doesn’t happened to me, So why we need to worry. Only thing is to show the sacked employees that we all are behind you(But in actual case u(sacked employee and his family) are alone, any offence?). Unless there is no unity among employees, the same will repeat and it goes on and on….I’m not asking that we need a political union (they will definitely ruin the industry) but the recent happenings call for some kind of unity among techies. Until this happens to us we will keep sleeping.
Some posts above had mentioned that “In IT, employees can leave as they wish, and so also employers by paying the notice pay,and one can not ask for job protection. It is not there anywhere in the world.†If it is in US , they will be getting unemployment benefits from Govt.Is this the case in India? If an employee wants to quit before the notice period he/she needs to pay the employer which doesn’t means that job protection is not reqd. We are paying the employer the money which is more than enough for the early quitting. Some may be arguing that a sw engineer gets much more money than a govt employee which doesn’t means that job security is not required. We are working more than 8 hours a day so we deserve to be paid more. We are compromising on lot of things in our daily life , so we need to be paid more.
I’m working in Technopark in a firm with not more than 300 employees. Here we are getting enough projects in this recession time too. Our company instead of sacking is recruiting people. In order to reduce the cost of running our management had taken certain steps which were very well accepted by the employees. The employees are ready to adjust with the current situation. Why I’m saying this here because the employer needs to take necessary action to reduce the expenses. As in IT firms employees are the most valuable asset, sacking them is not the permanent solution for the cost reduction. Think of a situation that the IT industry again booms , at that time the employees from the sacked companies will definitely search for a better option.(One can remember this word by watching the resignation count of the firms like IBS, Collabera etc etc once IT again booms up).
In my understanding the word “performance†is a trump card used by firms to make others shut their mouth. Yes there may be a 1% case where performance really matters.
See the example of IBS, there we can find a person who got the best performer was also sacked. Is this based on performance? There are lots of examples. I personally know a guy who has been forced to move out of a firm in Technopark. It belongs to Tata group.
http://technoparklive.blogspot.com/2008/06/tata-elxsi-harassing-employees-in.html
Hope u’ll find who is the real culprit.
Last year they sacked 5 people from technopark mentioning the word†performanceâ€. Now all the 5 are working with much better firms few are abroad with firms like Bosch, Siemens etc. This makes to think that was the problem related to the sacked employee or related to the person who sacked him. In my view there are lot of internal politics among the HR/PM ‘s which may lead to the sacking of employees. But this ruins the name of the reputed firm among techies. I mean the real culprit may be a HR/PM who ruins the firm’s reputation.
The main point to be noted is that plz don’t compare what is happening in rest of the world with Indian situations. In US hire n fire is very common. There “sacking†is not a –ve mark. But here the situation is different. It’s a big –ve mark among firms. That’s why I’m talking about the job security in IT.
I’m here not disclosing my name due to privacy
Dear EX-COLLABERIAN,
You have our sympathies for being Laid-OFF:(
Unfortunately, your approach is just not right. Why do you blame HR? Isn’t it the same HR who gave you a job? Do you think HR kicks people out for fun? Your performance is assessed by your manager. So, why not talk to your manager? I dare you to blame your manager because only he or she can give your name to HR to terminate you. HR acts on inputs given by your project managers or likewise.
From your discourse, two things are clear. You are way too fresh and immature to understand the operations in the IT industry and that you are writing on someone else’s behalf … 🙂
Well Wisher,
Wanted to clarify on a few points….”In US the govt pays unemployment benefits” In the US, there is a govt. tax on all employees paycheck for unemployment insurance. So technically it is that insurance premium that fetches the employees a nominal amount as unemployment benefits for around 6 months. It is a nominal amount and not enough to survive…Do u want our govt. to include an unemployment tax on everyone?…Which means another corrupt dept?…..
I agree with you that i really dont understand why companies are hesitant to mention to the media that this really was a recession related layoff…Bringing performance as the reason is probably for some legal protection. Even Satyam, TCS and Wipro who laid off in 1000s mentioned that performance was the reason….
However i dont think this is reason enough to complain…..Fact is companies will keep you only if they think they need you or they can afford you…Otherwise they will let u go….Dont expect the job security of our parents generation in the current world. Not just IT companies other than in government entities no private companies will provide any long term job security…
So live and let live…..
Attention: Ex-Collabera – I am a ex-IVLion with more than 4 years in the company. I do know most of the employees well and that includes the HRD. All this bullshit about media talking to HRD is false cos nobody from media called HRD and I am sure they would not be so dumb as to speak to the media especially when the media is just trying to make a lot of noise about nothing. I know some of the HRD guys for a long time and I have personally checked with them. Infact they are surprised there has been no media coverage or that it was not as they expected it would be.
Since i have very recently left IVL – Collabera, I know what is happening there. There has been some poor calculations on part of the Delivery managers in deciding the team sizes. Benches do happen in every company and Collabera is no exception. Last year UST Global had 100s on bench I believe. That does not mean either hired bad performers. Infact, having interacted with some of the newer domain teams, I am of the opinion atleast 1-2 of you did not deserve to be let off. Instead, atleast one of the less qualified, less experienced poorer communicators in the first batch of domain should have been let out. Who I am talking about is anyone’s guess.
Even during the IBS controversy, there were people like you writing false stories when the actual “VICTIMS” never had a problem. I am sure if you have skill, qualifications and attitude you would not be complaining. For instance recently Collabera gave many of us lesser than expected hikes, but we all moved on because we had the skill, confidence and qualifications. That is all you need.
It is unfair and incorrect for companies to talk about performace when laying off staff. Companies can lay off people, but why call poor performers? When laying off people, it is true that they will send out the least utilised or less useful people.
Collabara should pay back the intial deposit which they took from staff as training fees.
Shame on u people. Blindly supporting this kind Layoff. These bastards companies have no moral. But i know these companies are not running charities. But they shud have a policy for each and every process.
For lay off, they shud give proper notice period, at least one month. Even if one is so talented , he shud be given time to get a new job. at least time to search for a new job. Thats one intention of notice period(from employees’ perceptive). on employers perceptive, it includes other formalities including knowledge tranfer.
Collabera, former GCI( former Microland or planetasia) has very bad reputation in bangalore and they were able hold same in TP. worst company.
Naran,
They were given 2 months salary in lieu of the notice….That is more than what most companies do
If some one resign today, will they follow same process? ie, by giving 2 months salary and ask them to leave the office within 10 minutes?
Naran, there is a huge difference in what you are talking about and the layoff.
When you are leaving the company after resigning your job you are going with a happy mind and going for a better future or job. In this case companies are assured that you will not make any damage to the IPR of the company. When somebody get layed off you will never know the reaction!!. You can even damage the whole internal server or sources code or what not and make some minimum damages. Be happy with the one or two months salary they are getting. That is more than enough money to find his / next job.
Someone was mentioning that the best employee also lost his job. No big surprises in that I know even in my team some of the best peformers of previous years are doing their job in a worst manor this year.(Love affairs / family issues / divorse / love failure all these personal issues or even someone’s attitude after getting the best employee award can throw him out of the company. Let us not generalise things…
That is the correct process. No company will keep u in the office once it is known ur being terminated. This is a fact even for non-IT companies.
If you resign, you can pay the notice period and leave immediately too. I know a number of employees who have done that. This is particularly true if the company you are joining needs u immediately and will “buy” your notice period. I also know a number of employees who do not “honor” their notice period and just disappear…
naran please grow up u have a long way to go
OH ! that’s Wonderful. if u resign today, u can buy notice period and leave withing 10 minutes. and thats a great process man
From what I see, Collabera has done right and wrong.
The wrong ofcourse has more to do with miscalculation on part of management when deciding the hiring numbers. This happens everywhere though. Companies anticipate new projects and hire in large numbers and when the project do not come thru, they are forced to roll them out.
The right – Collabera, I understand, has paid more than 2 months salary to the rolled out employees besides extending their medical insurance facility and also offering them extended relieving dates.
No company can call an employee and tell him “look you are being laid off next month” That would be ridiculous.
Most of the people posting here smell of insecurity and hence the posts. If you are skilled, I am sure you would not worry so much on behalf of others.
Naran,
It is certainly not good for people to lose jobs, but this will happen when the industry is doing badly as it is today. The answer is not to react as what you have done, which can only damage us more.
The forecast by independant agencies is that Bangalore will lose 50,000 jobs before June – Indian Express report dated 27 Dec 2008. This may be right or worng, but the fact is that there will be lay offs. In Kerala, our problem is that we react without knowing facts or figures, and always we will blame companies.
Infosys and TCS are reconsidering their expansion plans in Kerala. Never ending hartals, bandhs and now irational labor behavior! We did the same in November with IBS. The most reputed company in Kerala, with exceptional track record; outstanding in CSR, world leading IT product company; but we did not spare them. IBS can survive anywhere, but we will lose thousands of jobs! We must stop this irational bash up of companies.
Companies should take care of employees. Any terminated employee, having any grievence can approach the CEO of Technopark and give a complaint in writing. We have this option which we should exercise. STOP bashing up companies; only very very insecure people do this, and this will destroy opportunities for the Kerala youth!
@Grow Up
Man I worked in PlanetAsia for 1 year. i know the work culture there. I have almost 7 years exp in industry, worked 3 cos, and sr architect in product development co in bangalore. I have seen layoffs in many cos. In one of the organization i worked, one of the project get closed(was extended DDC for US Banking major). They informed the employees abt the situation and given 2 months notice period. Also moved to the maintenance of an in-house(intranet) project. They cud have layedoff the way IBS/Collabera did. This is what u call a respected layoff process.
@ramesh
I know the situation in kerala. Kerala is no more most preferred destination for IT cos. But there are some improvements in the IT scene in Kerala> Now with recession , kerala doesnt offer any more benefits(In terms of infrs/resource cost).I dont know where u got information abt TCS. The proposal for 2 TCS DCS considered in dec 22 of Environment ministry meeting. One of it involves 10000 seats DC.
And IBS, they tried to take advantage of situation and busted ie, the worst thing happened to them. A lot many in IBS has lost confidence in their management. Many employees are looking for changes. Mind it collabera simply did nothing apart from offering 2 months salary.
Sherston was closed down almost 5-6 months back and close to 120 people lost jobs, in TP. That too before recession. Almost all got job immediately. But the situation is not that same. The organization have a social responsibility and and they cant run away from that.
This is not good for an employee friendly company or a company with social responsibility.
Recession is not the first time in Technopark. it happened earlier too. it was happened in earlier 2000’s for BMS
( A German company) and happened to sherston and Msqaured an year back and happened to wins infotech a few months back.those companies are
good example to handle it in a fair manner. what they did is they informed the employees about the situation and tell them to
prepare for a layoff. they collected the resume of the laid off employees and helped them to secure another job in other companies
within technopark and in other places like cochin bangalore etc..they didnt kicked them out with a label NON-PERFORMERS…
Every company has the responsibility to take care of their employees.an immediate layoff can be done in very big companies with ten
thousands of employees like IBM,or AT&T,Motorola etc..but that’s not the situation in Technopark.
Grow Up,
Did Collabera pay back the deposit to layed off employees? Collabera taking deposit for training and if they don’t pay back the deposit when laying off people is not a good thing.
Ramesh,
thats were they went tottaly immoral..They guys who payed huge money for training and job. For one of the layed off guys , not even got the 1st month salary. some other completed 2-3 months after training. @ the moment collabera is not ready to pay back the deposit, they say its training fee!!!!
Collabera must pay back any deposit taken from laid off employees. I am sure, employees can get this back, if they approach Technopark and give a written complaint. The agreement between the company and the employees has to be checked to make sure the legal vaildity of this act.
Collabera has the right to lay off employees, which is a business need, but no company can have the right to take deposit from employees and keep it when they lay off employees.
Any Money which is collected from the employees needs to give back.
i got a offer from collabera, what you guys recommend? After seeing this url i was pretty shocked.
So do u mean to say Collabera is not doing well?
Hearty condolences for all Layyed off employees…
I quit from IVL – Collabera 2yrs back and was with technical team.. that time IVL was running with gr8 success, but i felt after collabera acquires the the company..the nightmare started…they came up with worst policies, cut all consulting jobs with in India..hence most of the resources are not even given a chance to perform..so my opinion is with those who terminated..Company now has poor HR policies and Management..earlier it was ok but now ???….but i accept some part of points the HR told to media regarding performance…You know along with you there were many experienced ones who layyed off who was with IVL since long time..they were given chances to perform, but how long management keeps helping these non-performancers..this is what i can comment out…
Suresh – cut the lies, Collabera has not hired since July 2008. The last hiring they did was for Front Office cum Receptionist. I am sure you do not fit the job. HAHAHAHAHA! Happy New Year!
suresh said:

Dear Ex-IVLion,
Can you name one of the HR policies that you say are not good? I think you should take a new year resolution to be a better person in life. God help you.
Everybody in Collabera knows that nobody in HR ever spoke to media. Which media r you talking about? We in Collabera are not even bothered. I dont understand why an Ex-IVLion is so interested? I hope u still have a job. God help u too.
SureshLiar,
U seem to be a very knowledgeable Collabera employee. So why dont you enlighten us regarding the following:
1. Some of the folks who were fired where folks who had paid money ostensibly to be returned after x number of years? Are these guys being paid back the money with interest?
2. What is your opinion abt taking money in the name of training as a bond from potential employees? Would you consider this as a good HR practice?
3. IVL/Collabera was the founder of GTEC and a big proponent of the NOC bullshit where the companies practiced restrictive trade practices preventing an employee from leaving one technopark company and joining another without getting an NOC from his/her current employer? Would you consider that as a good HR policy.
Since you were requesting for some bad HR policy i thought of mentioning a few. Can u please make this your new year resolution to address these issues with your friends in the management at IVL/Collabera?
Taking money from employees is an unfair business practice, which can not be encouraged. Job seekers should know that any company taking money from employees, in the name of training or whatever, is not a good company and your money is at risk and any experience that you gain from such a company may not be valuable.
Collabera must change this practice, and return any deposits taken from laid off employees. Laid off employees must write to Technopark CEO to get their deposits back, subject to legal terms of the agreement between collabera and employees.
This is another version of Aryans infoways. what they did is demanded money as deposit what collabera is doing is labeling it as the training fee. collabera is more dangerous than Aryans, because there is no way to get back your money
how much is the trainig fee?
i came to know it was around 2 to 2.5 Lakh. is it right?
They would take 1.5 lakhs to 2.5 lakhs from freshers as security deposit to be returned after 3 yrs with the company.
I understand the fired employees have not been paid the security deposit and there is no clear answer from the management in this regard.
Also purely from the contract standpoint, the contract mandates the employee work for 3 yrs but the same contract does not guarantee that the employee will be kept by the company for 3yrs…If taken to court, Collabera will have a lot of answering to do…..
IT SHOULD TAKE IN TO COURT. NEVER ALLOW ANY ONE TO CHEAT THE EMPLOYEES
Any terminated employee must approach Technopark CEO to get thier deposit back. I am sure, Technopark can help the employees get thier deposit back. Collabera managment will be receptive to this, if taken up by Technopark.
Technopark CEO cannot help. It is a misunderstanding that all technopark companies are answerable to technopark authorities. Technopark is simply commercial real estate and the companies are tenants. There is no difference between companies inside technopark or outside technopark.
Employees can file a compliant with the local police station if it is a case of criminal cheating. Or alternatively they can approach the labor commisionner. Easier thing nowadays is the press…
Local police station cannot help. because we dont know the status of so many other cases like travancore software, aaryans infoway etc..labor commission and press will be the best.
but before going to media or commission, inquire the opinion from collabera management.
Ravi,
Media cannot help at all, and so also, police. Don’t give wrong advise. Media can only create damaging hype, with no positive effect at all. No company will respond to media hype. We already caused a lot of damage to technopark and Kerala by taking this immature route.
As i understand, No laid off employee has yet given a complaint to technopark, and this must be done.
If on the other hand the laid off employees want to pursue legal recourse, then approach the court. You don’t need a police complaint to go to court in the case of unethical practice or cheating by a company. But before that, they must do the following:
1/ Approach the managment and obtain their response
2/ Approach Technopark CEO; this has much more effect than anything else, because Technopark can influence companies.
3/ Approach Labour commision, though it may not be of much use. This is not a labour issue; Collabera employees are at will officers, who can be terminated according to the terms of employment contract. If the contract itself is illegal, this is a question to be deiceed by the court and not by labour commision.
Ramesh,
What can technopark authorities do? They have no locus standi on company matters. As long as companies pay their rent on time, the landlord (read technopark) cannot do anything. There is a misconception about technopark in general. It is nothing but Class A real estate and infrastructure provided by the government and companies are free to lease the space like any commercial real estate in the city. If you have similar problems in a company outside of technopark, can u go complain to the landlord of the building which the company is operating from?
A lot of employees believe that somehow technopark authorities have to address their HR problems. There is nothing they can do other than collect rent on time. Frankly the reality is a number of companies are not even paying their dues on time and technopark officials are helpless due to political pressure.
Ravi,
I am not saying that Technopark will address the HR issues of companies, but Technopark engages with each company and Technopark has an influence. Yes, they do not have legal powers, but they have contractual rights.
Collabera employees, if they have complaints, should compain to Technopark and why is this not done? Does it mean that the terminated employees do not have any issues with the depositis taken by collabera?
Come on guys, stop comparing Collabera with Travancore Software or Aaryans Infoway !!!!
Collabera offers on the job training in SAP and even returns the money even if gradually. This is real SAP training and in 6 months u are going places. I would like to hear from the 1000s of you who have gone to Genovate or Siemens and paid 3.25 Lakhs for a 5 week demonstration course in SAP module and never found a job.
The fact that Collabera is not giving money is another issue. But I heard last week, that the money is being processed to be returned and that there never was talk about money not being returned. This is the handiwork of some jobless people in the market.
Hypothesis<
Taking money in the pretext of on the job training will prove unethical and illegal when the company lays off people, without returing such deposits forthwith.
Collabera is doing as illegitimate a business as any fradulant outfit, because they are taking money from employees to fund thier busienss. What else is Collabera doing?
It is is not the reaction of jobless desperados; it is the reaction of law abiding people. This is fraud, however the colabera managment is trying to justify, and they will be answerable.
Hypothesis,
You cannot justify a company like Collabera, which take money from employees in the name of training, and lay off without paying back the deposit! We all know, such companies are not well meaning, and they will not take care of the interest of its employees.
People should be aware of the risk that they are taking when they join such companies. There have been a lot of such cases of companies taking money in the name of training/ jobs etc,in the past both within Technopark and outside and all of which had proven to be unethical.
