The new SMS based ticketing system will help passengers to book tickets even from a basic mobile phone. And passengers need not carry the printed tickets during the journey.
To use this service,users have to register your mobile number with the IRCTC as well as your bank first. Then, the bank will provide you with a Mobile Money Identifier (MMID) and a one-time password (OTP) for payment authorisation.
Users need to type the ‘Train Number’, destination, journey date, class and other personal details and send an SMS to the dedicated number. Then, you will receive transaction ID and then make payment by sending another SMS by typing PAY followed by the transaction ID, MMID received from the bank and password.
Charges are like Rs 3 per SMS and Rs5 for the payment gateway for an amount up to Rs 5,000 and Rs 10 for more than Rs 5,000.
