>>Marking the speedy growth of the satellite campus of Infopark Kochi, a new building of three lakh sq.ft is coming up in the second phase of Infopark-Thrissur at Koratty. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the commencement of construction of the first multistoried IT Building in the campus on 8th September 2012, 5PM. Upon completion; it is expected to generate employment for 2500 people.
Infopark-Koratty is driving a new era in the IT industry in Kerala. Started in 2009 at Koratty, Thrissur as a spoke campus of Infopark Kochi its success is the biggest example of the acceptance of an IT Park in the tier II towns of Kerala and this is considered as a remarkable achievement of Kerala IT by getting it operational within 8 months of time.
Infopark got the 30 acres of land with some old dilapidated buildings in January 2009 and innovatively the park authorities decided to launch the campus by renovating those buildings to suit the IT environment. The whole idea was to reduce the time delay in setting up a campus, to favour the start-ups and SMEs for giving them a cost effective solution and go eco-friendly. Now over 30 companies are operational from this park with nearly 600 professionals working. This is a big instance of Govt. of Kerala’s effort in promoting the entrepreneurial society of Kerala as the IT Policy speaks.
“With the 3 lakh sq ft building coming up, we are expecting over 2500 employment opportunities on completion. We are getting positive response from global IT companies to invest in tier 2 cities which are cost effective when compared to tier 1 cities.” said P. H. Kurian IAS, Principal Secretary – IT in an official press release.
Infopark-Koratty, the satellite IT park of Infopark Kochi, in a short span is redefining the whole notion of IT workplace. IT Park in this fashion is the first of its kind in India. The park is a better known as Villa IT Park with the buildings and whole ambience.
“The expansion of Infopark-Koratty shows the acceptance as well as how well an IT park can grow in tier II towns of Kerala. The first phase of the park was completely occupied in the first year of operation and now the second phase is also getting completed. The park’s proximity to Kochi and the International airport along with green ambience it provides has been a decisive factor for SMEs to set up shop. We are still getting a lot of interests from companies to open office in Koratty and with the new building being soon inaugurated, the park is poised for an excellent growth thus proving to be one of the most successful hub and spoke model in Kerala.†Infopark CEO, Gigo Joseph said.
Located in the midst of a balanced ecosystem, equidistant to Kochi and Thrissur, close proximity to the Kochi International Airport and easy accessibility to all modes of transport as it is located straight on the National Highway increases the prospect of Koratty campus in driving the future of Kerala IT. Low operating costs, availability of professional talents and good quality of village life has helped SMEs to set up shop here. The campus is one of the real examples of the emerging Kerala IT, which is synonymous for its fast track development initiatives. 8 months – 60,000 sq.ft – 30 Companies – 600 employment.
Now Infopark Thrissur is framing plans to address the Global IT Giants by adding up more infrastructures to suits their requirement and the new building of 3 lakh sq.ft with world class amenities and parking facilities will get operational in 18 months time.
