A Web 2.0 Generation survey conducted by TCS  among over 10000 school-going children between the ages of 12 to 18 in 11 Indian cities has revealed that Kochi’s youth are well into social networking. Networking is an ingrained phenomenon among 87 per cent of the city’s youth who participated in the survey. Orkut is a clear favourite with 80 per cent.
Google is the most preferred search engine, with 86 per cent using. Another source is Wiki with 79 per cent users, which is much higher than the all India average.
Internet access for Kochi youth is mostly from home. Over 85 per cent access the Internet from home and 50 per cent rely on cyber cafes.
IT is the preferred career option among the city’s youth. Media and entertainment also have takers. However, most of them cherish the goal of having a job abroad. Kochi youth also felt ‘comfort’ to be an important factor for career evaluation.
