Trivandrum: City’s popular cycle club is to be launched in Technopark for intra-campus travel. Â When TechnoparkToday.com published the exclusive news on Athi’s bicycle club (ABC) , we got an overwhelming response from our readers.
Inspired from the suggestions and comments posted by our proud readers, we, TechnoparkToday ties up with Athirup, the man behind the innovative idea of ABC( Athi’s Bicycle Club) – the unique cross country bicycle club.
TechnoparkToday.com team together with Athirup had multiple discussions with Mr. Mervin Alexander, CEO Technopark and M.Vasudevan GM, Technopark, and we got green signal to implement the green movement in Technopark! Â The “Technopark Bicycle Club”.
Allianz, Technopark would be the prime sponsor of  Technopark Bicycle Club by sponsoring 100 brand new bicycles, racks & accessories. In the first phase, 50 bicycles would be commissioning across the campus.  later more companies can join this mission by adding more bicycles and racks and promote the cycling in Technopark.
Bicycle racks will be placed near all major building complexes inside the campus. Technopark employees can avail the facility to travel inside Technopark by joining the club. some of the green spots are both entrnaces of Technopark,  Park Centre, Technopark Club, and all major technopark buildings like Nila, Bhavani, Tejaswini, Leela, Padmanabha, MSquared, IBS, TCS, Tata Elxsi, NeST etc…
The Technopark Bicycle club will be launched by first week of december. The operation of the bicycle club is through an SMS-based automated system, developed by ABC.
As a second phase, we are planing to install bicycle racks near Technopark gate and nearby bus stops and railway station, so that techies can make maximum use of this facility.
Technopark Authorities, ABC, TechnoparkToday.com and Allianz Technopark  are jointly providing the facility that would enable Techies to have an environment friendly mode of transport at the time of rocketing fuel price. You can pedal your way to health and also ensure that you are a true nature lover. Be a part of this unique initiative.
Once it is implemented in Technopark, Trivandrum, we have plans to implement similar bicycle clubs in other IT parks as well.

great.. I’m really excited to hear this. This would be the biggest green movement in kerala. we are yet to think about cycling as a serious hobby. it will enhance your health and help you to live green.

This is the need of the hour. If we start using the cycles at least in the campus, we can avoid pollusion, and improve our health. as we know the most unhealthy people are the people working in IT companies. and they have less time to go for a workout due to various reasons. it would be a blessing for such people. just use the cycle when you go for a coffe, or going for the lunch. or we can make small groups of cycling enthusiasts and cycle in campus. there is a big and green campus nearby – karyavattom university campus. plenty of greenery and air.

Only inside Technopark? Unless it is extended to atleast technomall, wonder if it will be used.
Have serious reservations on how many techies would ride uphill from the lower levels (Nila, Padmanabha) to higher (Bhavani, Tejaswini).
We need to have a cycle slot at University campus main gate ( so ppl can get down from bus and ride in and reverse….even campus students could use it…so there wil be enough volumes to be profitable)

The bicycles will be putting in many important locations like university jn, inside university and of course it can be used outside technopark.

Please introduce cycle only lanes also next to pedestrian walkways to prevent mishaps. Many folks in TP drive like they are running away from hell.
Very Good. Now more good things are happening in technopark.
But this idea in not unique. Our tamil nadu IT parks situated in Chennai and Coimbatore have cycle clubs with cycle lanes on both sides of road.
Club should have two branches. The first branch should manage route from main Gate to steps near Nila (including area covering technomall) . Second one from SBT (near Thejaswin) to back gate.

Great idea, love it.. but Having some questions in mind…
1. How to avoid bicycle theft ?
2. Will the auto guys (who are charging without running meter and polluting technopark with black smoke) allow to place the racks on bus stops and rail station ?

nish, more than 75 bicycles are placed in various locations in trivandrum city, and not even a single theft is reported yet, and we are getting support from the autowalas as well. so we hope it will work here also.
these are the custom branded bicycles, that we can see and identify very easily.

I guess if cycle only lanes are there, this program will be more successful.
Anyway waiting for the inauguration function.
It is heard that the inauguration of the technopark bicycle club would be on 5th or 7th of december 2011. everybody is waiting for that.
