TechnoparkToday.com: Prof. Eben Moglen, Director Cousel and Chairman of Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC), will have a public lecture on ‘Software and the Law’ at Travancore Hall in Technopark from 2pm to 5pm on Monday. Mishi Choudhary, founding Director of SFLC India, too will deliver the lecture. The event is organized by International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) in association with Software Freedom Law Centre, India (SFLC.IN).
A discssion on ‘Ethics and Emerging Technologies’ will be held between 5.45pm – 7.15pm at C-DAC Amphitheatre, Vellayambalam, Trivandrum on Monday.
“The last three decades have seen the emergence of numerous technologies from personal computers to the Internet, mobile phones, cloud computing, and most recently, the Internet of Things (IoT). Many of these technologies and devices become trusted by users, yet pose known and unknown challenges to the well-being of users. Some of the well-known concerns are privacy, anonymity, and confidentiality of user data. The session will focus on the ethical challenges posed by these emerging technologies and how users could mitigate some of them.” said Satish Babu, Director, ICFOSS.
Prof. Eben Moglen is a professor of law and legal history at Columbia University and is the founder, Director Cousel and Chairman of Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC), New York. He has been closely involved with the Free Software Foundation, serving as general counsel since 1994 and Board Member from 2000 to 2007.
Mishi Choudhary works with SFLC, New York, and is a founding Director of SFLC India (SFLC.IN). She was a Stone Scholar at Columbia Law School where she studied for her LLM. Prior to joining SFLC, Mishi was a litigator in different chambers in India with areas of practice covering Corporate and Commercial Law, Arbitration & Dispute Resolution, Property Law, Information Technology Law, Trademarks and Copyrights, Constitutional and Administrative Law.
