Food Audit: Allegations are Baseless, says Technopark CEO

Mervin Alexander

>>Technopark CEO, Mervin Alexander, said that the allegations against hotels and restaurants in Technopark were not true.  “It is totally baseless.  The audit conducted among the hotels is just superficial and unscientific”, Mervin told to TechnoparkToday.

“The baseless reports are making techies panic. Some Technopark companies contacted Infosys for clarification of this incident,” he added.

Technopark authorities conduct a food quality check in the hotels and restaurants every year.  Food samples are collected from the hotels and sent to an ISO standard analytical laboratory for scientific testing.  No issues have reported in the past, he added.

Mervin also said that the Technopark authorities are ready to take action, if there is any genuine complaint.

Infosys, which conducted the audit, has not released the report yet.

  1. We request Infosys to release the audit report for the sake of techies and their health. They have also some offices in the technopark campus, and it is the matter of the techies health.

Techies should collectively lodge a complaint to the CEO of technopark. Then only it can be proved and then we can force the authorities to take action.

  2. I think the TP authorities are least concerned about this issue. If the report is baseless, how can we forget the FOOD POISON issue reported earlier from TP restaurants. Moreover there is no mechanism to check the quality of food supplied inside TP..
Also the TP authorities should bring some price controlling system with in TP restaurants .

  3. Rubbish. We all eat at the food court and other restos sometime or the other and have seen the horrible plate washing area and hand washing area not to forget the overpriced food. So many times there have been mails regarding bad food. How can someone at this level blindly say there is nothing wrong? Just protecting the establishment and nothing else. Try to change something!

  4. Yes , Mervin Sir, Wait until any causalities occur. Then you will get a genuine reason to take any action. Until then sleep in your office.

  5. Food quality issues are there for a long time. No need of any company’s audit to support it.

Dear Mervin Sir, please have a lunch @ some restaurants in Technopark (Rangoli or Amritha is a good choice) and decide.

  6. One of the funniest replies ever heard from a person sitting in chair of CEO….. He sounds like a politician with the usual comment “give me a compliant, then i will take action”….. aren’t the authorities supposed to act pro-actively and take necessary actions rather than waiting for something to happen????

being a person who works in TP for more than 8 years, I can undoubtedly say that the food being served in TP restaurants are pathetic. There were lot of reports of worms, cockroaches etc being served…. still the CEO thinks that there is no problem at all, and the once-a-year audit will take care of everything… shame on you Mr Melvin….. you need to live up to your standards…

  7. On what basis does infosys put these allegations, they have to publish the results. Then we will see what the CEO says. All the forums are filled with photos of worms and other things from tp restaurants. It is a known fact and the CEO has to take responsibility. Conducting tests on a pre determined day ”once a year” will do nothing. They have to do regular tests and that too on uninformed days… Then see how many of these pass the test.

  8. Mr.Mervin, why dont you try a lunch from any of those so called restaurants out there. Geethangali, one which is near the steps on the way to Nila from Bhavani will be a best choice. Horrible! You dont see such a nasty shop anywhere else, serving food to people like us. Their food, plates and i cant stop saying, dresses of those guys and ladies who serves the food. Hey, that makes me puke now.. Also, how can a top official comment this is baseless, which is happening right infront of their nose.. Its really a high time for the authorities to work on the serious allegations on those shops. You cannot wait for an incident to start your mission. Please do something, a humble request from a techie..

  9. Let the INFOSYS release the audit report. Why they are not publishing it? What I heard is they are taking actions against someone who leaked the audit report to the media outside. If they take any actions like that, That would be challenge against all the techie community.

  10. Appalling that someone at that level actually said there is nothing wrong. Hey, we don’t need audits or inspections to prove this. Everyone knows that there are serious hygiene and pricing issues in the park. Come on, admit it.

  11. I used to have food from California hotel (Nila back gate tea shop) for the last 5 years, breakfast, lunch, and evening tea. I no any complaints on the quality of food. Comparing to the inside restaurants and hotels, these local places are far far better in quality and price. A number of places available near the Nila back gate offering homely lunch for a very reasonable price.

  12. “””No issues have reported in the past, he added.”””

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has not Mr. Mervin seen the several mails sent to the HR forum complaining about food and other facilities? It is usually Government spokespersons who speak in denial always.

  13. I m a regular customer of Tejaswini restaurant.I have seen noodles gettin dried in the balcony & crows picking it.Such noodles are served with high price.Usually where price goes down quality also goes down but here price goes upwards & quality goes downwards. This is the situation in technopark.Let the CEO of technopark try food from all restaurants each day one by one.Within 1 months time he will know the truth.Even after that he is not taking any action then he is a greedy person. This can be the conclusion abt him.If restaurants & companies are not there in technopark he wont exist…..

  14. Dear Sir, I am the victim .
Due to non hygienic food provided from Amrita restaurant I was hospitalized due to vomiting & stomach pain. That night I ate from there only. After examination they told it is due to the bad oil used for cooking make me ill. From that day I stopped eating from there.
Then once in the rice from Rengoli restaurant ,Nila building I found worms. That time I showed to the lady standing there. She said that she will give another dish. What use.. still want to eat worms!

After getting report are closing your eyes against this. how can you simply say its fake?

  15. If he eat continuously for a month from restaurants in technopark. he will be hospitalized before any evaluations. Thats for sure. that’s the quality of technopark restaurants.

  16. “Food samples are collected from the hotels and sent to an ISO standard analytical laboratory for scientific testing”

Are you kidding? And these ISO Standard Labs did not find anything wrong????

    Athu Bhayangaram thanne!!!

  17. best thing we could do is, ‘QUIT HAVING FOOD INSIDE TP!!’ bring food from home, that will save money and health. These guys not going to so anything..

  18. I have to stay in trivandrum. I need some best hotels nearest in Technopark. Please tell me…

  19. Dear CEO, Could you please have a lunch from some restaurants in TP (If possible, choose Rangoli / Mubaraq is a good choice) and then decide…!!!!

  20. Most respected CEO,
Would you mind telling us how much is your percentage from each hotel in there??

we are the ones who eat out from these shits regularly…
Anyways you should be happy.. Next time you can ask them for higher percentage…

    Congrats

  21. Rather than saying “It is totally baseless” try to go and experience yourself in all of these restaurants by yourself.

A lot can be improved if you want to take up TP to world standards. The food, roads, parking area, security personnels etc. Have a mind of continuous improvement rather than the attitude of this is enough!

  22. I think Mervin sir came form politics, He talks like some of the politicians.
But sir you are talking to Techies, they have good education, not like you.

Please have a lunch from any hotels in technopark, people who bring food from home like you will not realize it.

  23. Hi techies

There is no solution for the when we speak it to this sir or any other authorities. If we need a solution we need this issue talks in media, then something will happen, they become more vigilant about this matter..

  24. To all techies and other concerned….

As a food manager and an insider understands how things work within the industry, i recommend the park authorities to do the following before renewing the contracts of the restaurant.

    1. The “service” charge levied by TP on these restaurants is very very high..to the point where they cannot operate comfortably. Reduce the charges or remove it once and for all. TP can do without these charges.

    2. Other charges like water, electricity are also extremely high. Telephone etc will be charged even if service is non- existent.

    3. Restaurants should be made to enter into a pest control contract with PCI or other companies before renewing their license. THIS SHOULD BE COMPLUSORY and ENFORCED.

    4. Kitchen staff should wear hats, or hear gear complusory.

    5. Spot checks should be done once a month by the administration committee on all restaurants service areas and kithcens. Right now only the areas outside the restaurants are monitored which doesnt really affect the food quality. Example..a couple of gunny sacks lying outside the kitchen area doesnt go well with the management. The rest is asked to remove it immedieatley. But who cares..what happens inside the kitchen is more important.

    6. Management should be forced to do cleanliness check of employees. including uniforms, aprons, fingernails etc.

    7. Running a restaurant is not easy,, it is hard to maintain a profit and provide good service and fresh food. So increase in prices cannot be controlled.

DO NOT FORCE THESE RESTAURANTS TO PAY ASTRONOMICAL SERVICE CHARGES..FOR BASIC SERVICES..THAT DOESNT EVEN EXIST. FORCE THEM TO SPEND THAT MONEY ON PEST CONTROL and other things..where they can also make a profit. RIGHT NOW THEY ARE BEING FORCED INTO A CORNER WHERE THEY HAVE TO RESORT TO SHORT CUTS TO MAKE A PROFIT and CHARGE PRICES.
