>>Majority of the techies might have tasted bad foods in hotels and restaurants inside Technopark.  If it is not just a matter of taste and have far reaching health hazards, would you still feel it’s ok?  Dear colleagues, it’s time to act.  According to some reports, Infosys has conducted an audit in various restaurants, food joints, and the outlets of leading food chains functioning in Technopark. Arguably, the reports have some shocking facts.  According to the report published in Kerala IT News, 18 out of 19 hotels have failed met the audit standards for safe consumption.

TechnoparkTody.com have raised several such issues in the past and our readers too have shared their experiences with us.  However, the authorities are yet to respond to it, which would result in serious health hazards.  As long as we remain mute spectators for this injustice, we have to suffer the consequences.

TechnoparkToday is conducting an independent investigation on this serious issue.  We have contacted Technopark authorities, representatives of hotels/restaurants, Infosys, techies and other companies.  The investigation reports will be published in the coming days.

Kerala IT News’ report is as follows:

Technopark Techies face health hazard, 18 out of 19 food joints fail audit
Tvm: Working in Technopark Trivandrum? It’s ok as long as you are not eating anything from the various restaurants, food joints and the outlets of leading food chains there. Food from 18 out of 19 outlets / restaurants / food joints in the Technopark campus, which was audited by a leading IT company there, failed to achieve the minimum standards set for safe consumption. There are 21 such places in the campus and while one is closed for renovation, the outlet of a leading pizza chain refused to let their premises to be inspected.

Concerned with the health of its employees, the company, which is one of the largest employers in Technopark, recently audited these outlets / restaurants / food joints keeping a set of well defined parameters. The team will be submitting a copy of the report to Technopark authorities. The sorry state of affairs of these places is a reflection of the innumerable complaints about the quality of food being served; leave apart the pricing, which is another bone of contention.

Some of the key findings of the report are:
1. Excessive use of artificial colouring / flavouring agents in most food joints. There are specific references to Rangoli, which runs three restaurants (Bhawani, Nila & near Park Centre)
2. Use of milk after expiry date in milk shakes / desserts, with specific reference to Passion Fruit which has two outlets (Nila & Thejaswani)
3. Cockroaches / insects in raw food packets, specifically noodle packets in restaurants serving Chinese food
4. Serving plates are not washed properly, serious issue at Thejaswani Food Court as it has centralised washing system and a common washing area
5. Cleanliness inside kitchen of most outlets is an issue, no or minimum usage of disinfectants
6. Repeated usage of heated oil for frying
7. Use of food items after the ‘Best Before’ dates

The audit report comes at a time when Vital Links, the company which runs the food court at Thejaswani has been issued a Termination Notice of its contact by Technopark and new contracts to run the outlets at Bhawani are being finalised or issued. The opening of the food court in Thejaswani in 2008 gave some relief to the techies but it was short lived as several outlets like Mothers Kitchen, Paapa Pancho & the Chinese food joint shut shop following allegations of mismanagement and poor quality food.

The report is not surprising looking at the comments and discussions going on in websites like My Technopark and Technopark Today. The quality and pricing of food has been a major issue for the last several years. Going by the comments, Rangoli seems have mastered the art of serving cooked worms and roasted cockroaches on a regular basis to the techies. There are also reports of techies getting rotten (stale) chicken from Chick King; stapler pin in elayappam from Rangoli; ice cold masala dosa and uppuma which taste like fevicol from Spice Malabar.

The very fact that Dominos refused permission for audit shows that they have got something to hide and feared being exposed. While smoking is banned inside the campus, there is open sale of cigarettes in Food Court (Thejaswani). Food items in Technopark are exorbitantly priced. Most places do not give back the change especially if paid by food coupons. The techies also have to face humiliation and arrogant behaviour from the people who manage these places.  (www.keralaitnews.com)

  1. Technopark restaurants are all same, they are serving cheap and low quality food for high price. Techies are forced to consume all those food, and this is an eye opener. kudos to Infosys to conduct such a quick inspection.

  2. I had a very bad experience with one of the restautant named the CHOP STICK. They are actually chopping the people, and other than that, I bought one plain rice and chicken manjoorian. the rice itself smelled bad when they served, they charged me Rs.175 for one plate of plane rice and so called chicken manjoorian ( only god knows whether that is chicken, it tasted different and overdosed with sauce and chinese salt ).

I paid heavy, and that damaged my stomach, and I was on leave for next three days. We need to kick out such choppers from the premises of technopark.

Anyway good article. awaiting for more…

  3. Moto of Restaurants inside TP is to make QUICK MONEY no matter what shit they provide to customer!! If they do the same outside, i am sure someone should have closed those restaurants by knocking on the face!! but inside TP, they are secure, they know we humble and Gentle techies not going to harm them in anyway. If we stop eating there they will either close there restaurants or do something to improve their service.. but i don’t think both will happen. its very pathetic!! no one taking action against all these!!! TP authority needs only money as rent and they don’t care about the food provided here!!

  4. Thats right..everybody need only money. nobody will care about the quality of food or the prices there. the restaurants are using very low quality food materials and colors, and very low quality sauce etc… all dishes tastes like same, because they are using excess same sauce.

and prices are also bigg…there is a restaurant named Time & again, you might be knowing the dilkush named bread, the entire one you can buy for Rs.20, but these people selling a piece ( they cut a dilkush in to minimum 8 pieces) and selling Rs.15/piece.

There is nobody to control them or inspect them. they can charge whatever they want. techies having no other options.Authorities should consider this with highest priority.

  5. I had a very bad experience with one of the restautant named the CHOP STICK. Last day i placed an order for 4 fried rice at 1 pm and it took almost 1 hr for them to server and our office time starts at 2pm and we told them to parcel the fried rice. They asked for 60 rs and due to the rush and people around there we were forced to give that 60 rs as parceling charge. Are they allowed to charge for parcel. Where should i complain about this ?

  6. There is no authorities or bodies to lodge a complaint. Thats the main problem in technopark.

  7. Guys, Let’s share our bad experiences with the restaurants in technopark. and rate the restaurants according to their quality and services.

  8. I am also the victim. by eating food from amrita restaurant in Nila bulding i was hospitalized due to vomiting & stomach pain fr a day.

  9. The hotels near and inside technopark exploiting the situation. Because most of the employees are either bachelors and far away from their hometown to get a job here. So employees forced to depend on these hotels. It’s the time to act.

  10. I am new to Technopark. I was working in Bangalore for last 7 years. I am shocked when I came to know that a glass of juice costs Rs 40. In Bangalore it was only Rs 15.

The reason behind this price difference is that in Bangalore each company have their own cafeteria. But in Technopark none of the companies are having their own cafeterias and hence the employees are exploited by the cafe owners.

  11. Like I said guys… about the prices..these restaurants are forced to charge high prices because of the astronomical service charge and rent charged by TP management. The first thing you all should lobby the TP management is to enforce pest control contracts for all restaurants..and lower the so called “service” charges ( there is no service) and high rents on these restaurants from TP side.
How do I know all this?? I managed a food court in TP a few years back.

  12. This is exactly the same situation exist even today in technopark restaurants. we all are blaming the restaurant for the unreasonable prices and low quality food in technopark restaurants.

But the actual reason behind it is the bad policies of technopark authorities. Technopark is charging almost the same square feet rate or even more of that, they are charging to the software companies. so the restaurants needs to pay a very big amount every month as the rent and other charges. how they can make all those money? by selling the food only. so they will increase the price and decrease the quality. they will buy low quality materials and give us and charge high.

So we need to identity the real culprit.

  13. My company is providing free meal for employees. So we don’t need to go outside for food
