Some football thoughts…

TechnoparkToday.com> “Hey buddy which team you support in tonight’s match?”, “Let’s watch the match in big screen”, “tonight my fav team will win”. Like this words are quite common nowadays in all office cubicles. When the entire world is in football spirit we techies are also in maximum  enjoyment mood.

People who used to slog hours are leaving office soon to catch the match. Also those who used to wear dull formals even on Fridays are wearing their fav team jersey. All Thanks to this football festival which comes only once in 4 years.

Football commonly called as soccer is a master game in which skills and pace are equally important. There are so many nations who play this sport and that’s why it is included in Olympics also. People love and even live for this game. It has also changed the life of thousands. All footballers have struggled and through pure determination have raised to a loving heroic level in the minds of people.

In a cricket dominated country like India very less people play and support this game. Yet if you ask any of our Keralites about football you will come to know how master we are in this game. Not only us even Goans and Bengalis are also equally obsessed with this game.

We all wait for this event to happen every 4 years. When it’s about to arrive you can even see how the city changes. Cut outs and posters of film actors and politicians make way for Lionel Messi and Neymar. Huge screens and soccer booths(the same used as polling booths) are set up. If matches happen in late nights the city also experience this 1 month short lived Night life also.

With the advent of technology people are now more interested to watch the match streaming online where you can capture the game statistics. Some have even bought projectors and have set this at home to get full live stadium effect. Mobile apps, daily news feed, prediction contest, dream team, and so on become the walk of these days. Tons of Fun filled events are there on internet world.

This is also a time when all friends and family get together in front of screen. Some friends who are in parts of India where people don’t see FIFA much have even taken holiday to get back to Kerala hometown. Another Kolkata friend told how idols of footballers are kept in Gallis, don’t know when we will start like that. Those friends who move out of country even get together this time all thanks to social networks. Sending a pestering message to a friend in what’s app when their supporting teams play bad is awesome. This is also the time when soccer haters start loving the match.

Every year when FIFA starts we remember the good old days when we sat with friends to watch the match. This year also we try to make a reunion and celebrate. When it ends we wish we could see it with more passion next time. Celebration of football is much bigger than our festivals because we get it once in 4 years. True to the saying that Sweet things are always got only by waiting!

Let’s conclude this football frenzy with a dream thought – imagine a day when India plays in FIFA that day whom will we support? Argentina, Brazil or our own Nation?
