TechnoparkToday.com>> May 13, 2014: Startup Village is conducting a free workshop for schoolchildren to familiarize them with the Raspberry Pi computer and encourage them to start coding and developing apps right from school.
The workshop from May 19 –30 is open to students from Classes VIII to XII. The first 30 students registering online via www.startupvillage.in/raspi will be selected to attend.
What is Raspberry Pi ?
The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit card sized single-board computer developed in the UK by the charity the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It is designed to teach young people to program and understand how computers work.
It is capable of doing most tasks a desktop computer can do – from browsing the internet and playing high definition video to making spreadsheets, word processing and playing games.
The Raspberry Pi has been widely acknowledged as a valuable educational tool that can spark children’s curiosity and orient them towards the future of technology.
The workshop at Startup Village will give the youngsters an idea of how to use the Raspberry Pi at home and in schools, teaching them the basics of computer science and how to go about developing new programs.
“When hundreds of students start using the latest technology to learn, we will have a talent pool that will build the technologies of the future,” said Sanjay Vijayakumar, the Chairman of Startup Village. “Through this workshop we will try to demystify high-end technology for schoolchildren, encouraging them to explore and understand further.”
Pranav Suresh, the Chief Operating Officer of Startup Village, said the workshop is a pilot for a wider project to educate the next generation of entrepreneurs. “This is the first in a series of activities we are planning to give learning opportunities to school and college students, and to orient them towards technology and entrepreneurship. Their contributions are going to drive future growth in these domains.”
