“Efforts are not rewarded; Results are…” – Shiv Khera
TechnoparkToday.com>> March 7, 2014: Vijay is a very enterprising IT engineer working in a Corporate for more than five years. During the year he worked very hard and rose to the expectations of the company. He was a loner and worked 18 hours a day for the Company and the Company has benefited tremendously. But he never cared to document his systematic work, hoping that others will easily follow the procedure. Gradually he was wearing out. He expected a promotion, but management could not find a second in command, who will do the work of Vijay once he is promoted.
In short, Vijay could not find time to develop his team of second line of leadership. Neither has he documented the process, nor does he develop a team. His self-appraisal was great. The assessment of the senior Manager about Vijay was also okay, barring the fear of not having a second rung. But the top management abroad refused to give a promotion. He was denied of the incentives too. Vijay was totally desperate. He started blaming the Company.
Sajan started his career as an office boy of an ITES Company. He worked very hard and while doing his work very successfully, he could train effectively the other junior office boys and made them effective. At the same time, he learned the work of an assistant and was serving the Company in an assistant’s role too. The CMD of the Company, Robins has not had a second thought at all. Sajan was promoted. Now he is one of the assets of the Company.
Nobody is inevitable anywhere in the World. Nobody is indispensable too. If you are not there, somebody else will occupy your position. When you work, get noticed and also allow your team to get noticed. Even in your absence, the team should be organized to go ahead. That is creation of second line. Your performance should create a legacy so that your new upper door will be opened automatically. Whatever work you do, do it enjoying and full hearted.
“Promotion is to be earned and not be given.”
Useful and interesting. Thank you
