High-tech Research Park in CET

A high-tech park, the first of its kind in the State, will soon come up at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET) campus.

The Thiruvananthapuram Engineering Science and Technology Research park (TEST) will be India’s second campus research park, the first being the Research Park at IIT, Chennai.

The State Government has allocated Rs 10 crores towards the project in the recent State budget. The research park will provide facilities on the campus in terms of lab and land for industries to conduct their research activities. An ideal ecosystem will be created by which industries can leverage the expertise of the faculty and also provide employment and experience to students.

As the first step of the project, a portion of the newly-constructed building on the CET campus meant for MBA course will be used for the Research Park. Later, three buildings will come up on ten acres of land on  the college campus. Major companies like Accenture, HLL and Mahindra have already reached an agreement with the CET to collaborate in the project.

The Research Park would provide standard infrastructure such as electrical fittings, central airconditioning, communication facilities and water supply. Other amenities would include substantial car parking space, dining space, business and conference facilities etc. Companies will be able to create their own signature style interiors and layouts to suit their needs. The industries would function in the Research Park on a rental basis. The park will also have an incubator by which start-ups would be provided space, concessional rents, technological support, financial support and mentoring.
