All tech-savvy employees are active in various social networking websites, So many major IT companies plans to rollout a media policy enlisting the do’s and don’ts for them while interacting on social media websites.
Recently Infosys and UST Global announced their social media policy. Such a policy would make employees accountable for their comments on social media. The policy was prompted by the fact that some of the employees were found discussing projects and clients details on the networking side, which breached the clause of confidentiality.
The Social media policy would mainly enlist do’s and don’t about revealing projects or client engagements along with restrictions on passing personal comments about any person in the organisation. Those breaching the policy once implemented would face disciplinary action, including warning and in worst cases termination from services.
Every business would benefit from having a social media policy in place, but it should not be an all or nothing approach. Instead of having a policy in place that blocks social media completely or doesn’t block social media at all and expects employees to follow policy rules, why not block some pieces of social media and keep some parts of social media accessible? Social media is growing in the business world and companies would be missing out on its benefits if it is blocked entirely. Palo Alto Networks might have found a solution to this problem, they have a new software that has the ability to do thing such as a read-only facebook. I think companies could really benefit from something like this, what do you think? Here’s a link to new whitepapers they have created: bit.ly/d2NZRp, bit.ly/brno0T, bit.ly/9G1Z3A, and bit.ly/dtsQb4
More and more companies are putting restrictions on social media as an employee. but still remember you have a personal life also.
companies can impose restrictions on their brand name and clients name and business. not in to your personal matters i believe….
Hope there wont be any hard policies.
The policy restricts an employee to publish the classified business information of company and their clients. also any un-authorized appearance about the company policy or their stand on a particular issue like recession or take over of another company, or the internal politics or anything related to the business and impression of the company among the society.
