After the Raavan debacle and die hard Mani Ratnam’s follower thrashing his new offering ‘Kadal’, me with least expectation, carried the courage hoping a turnaround for the filmmaker who is still for me an Icon, a true magician when it comes to cinematic experience.
Kadal started on a very promising note, thefirst fifteen minutes and the comeback of Arvind Swami definitely made me hopeful that the movie might be one of those which can be tagged as ‘Ahead of our times’ film, keeping in mind the negative criticism floating around. Though that was not the case here, the movie would be one of the weakest films by Mani Sir in his career lifetime. The movie falls flat in all respects, at one point I was made to believe that this is not filmed by Mani Sir, rather some other junior filmmaker directed on behalf of him. Though that misbelief didn’t bring in any relief for the disappointment that this movie had in store.
This would be the shortest review from my side for this movie, as am angry, am hurt, am disappointed to see a Legend filmmaker trying very hard to convey a story which is far- far from his way of storytelling. In all, Kadal is a sloppy film felt like it was just made to launch star kids, though they struggle hard in Kadal to build a connect with audience.
This would be a rough patch for Mani Sir, which is quite evident, hoping he would come back and surprises me with his own style in future.
