The Chief Minister Oommen Chandy after a high level meeting with meeting with senior police officers declared a reward of rupees 5000 for a picture which can help the police to solve a crime. This innovative scheme is for improving the participation of public for helping police to control the hiking crime rates. With this declaration anyone who have a mobile phone with a camera can serve the purpose.
The C.M also gave approval for the setting up of surveillance cameras on the main roads of  five cities including Kochi,Kollam,Thrissur,Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram. And with the help of co-operation of publics with mobile cameras police expects to cover by- roads too.
The meeting also decided to sanction five additional posts at 143 police stations where community policing were already implemented. The other important decisions includes the new appointments of drivers to run patrol boats of the coastal police stations and to the Regional Forensic Science Lab at Kannur.
