Technoparktoday.com>> Kerala Startup Mission(KSM) in association with SCTIMST organizes ‘Health Hackathon’ to promote health care entrepreneurship in Kerala. On 30th and 31st of January 2016 TIMed opens its doors to young and talented hacker innovators who come up with innovative ideas in the field of Health care. Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST) is one of the prestigious institution in the field of Medical science and technology in the country.
TIMed promoted by Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology and supported by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (Govt of Kerala) and Department of Science and Technology (Govt of India) encourages and supports every big idea in med-tech.Kerala Start up Mission being the nodal agency to create a start up ecosystem in the state has associated with SCTIMST to bring in young and talented minds who have the ability to think wisely to solve the clinical needs.
Medical Devices and biomaterials is a sunrise industry in India and a recession-free industry globally. With numerous unmet clinical needs that require innovative solutions and a pressing need to develop affordable devices, now is the ideal time for innovators to engage in this sector. There are ample opportunities to innovate in the area of medical devices which include disposables, external prosthetic devices temporary and permanent implants, diagnostics, therapeutic, surgical instruments and much more.
In the case of a medical device, the need for such innovation is more effective when it is identified by a Clinician. Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology identifies such unmet clinical needs through its clinicians regularly. The Institute tries to come out with product/process/ material/system as solutions to these unmet needs through various modes.
This is an opportunity being provided to the young brains who are interested in the development of medical devices to solve a problem put forward by a clinician. We want this need to be translated into a workable solution to provide this back to the health community and ultimately to the patients.
The Hackathon will act as a catalyst which identifies the best idea to get incubation support in TIMed run by Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology. The mentors and scientists will provide guidance to the enrolled contestants to guide their project.
Mr Rajesh Nair who is currently a Visiting Scholar at the MIT Tata Centre and Director of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Centre at the Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur is heading the hackathon.
Mr Balagopal of Terumo Penpol commented on the same
“Setting up a commercial venture using untried technology is always a risk; but it was worth the effort. The plant I set up in 1987 to make hi-tech blood bag systems has grown to become the largest of its kind in the world, with products being shipped to many countries. SCTIMST supported me fully in the technology transfer process. This remains a USP of technologies developed at this Institute.”
There will be a process/format and is as follows.
-Selection of participants (30)
-Introduction of Problems
-Ideation Session
-Team formation
-Solution strategizing
-Identification of solution for prototyping
Amazing cash prizes are awaiting the young minds. Participants can submit the applications online- www.startupmission.kerala.gov.in/healthhack
