TechnoparkToday.com(July,2014): Microsoft announces biggest layoff in history, cutting 18,000 jobs over next year. Of these layoffs, 12,500 will come from Microsoft’s Nokia devices division. this is almost 14% of the entire workforce in Microsoft.
According to company memo, the new CEO Satya Nadella seeks to boost the efficiency by realign the workforce. He assured that the layoff will be conducted in the most thoughtful and transparent way possible and offer severance to all employees impacted by these changes, as well as job transition help in many locations, and everyone can expect to be treated with the respect they deserve for their contributions to company.
It is expected that the employees will be given notice over the next six months. When explaining why so many Nokia employees got axed, Nadella said that they were needed to “realize the synergies to which we committed when we announced the acquisition last September.” Nadella also said that Microsoft would be taking some of the designs for Nokia’s Android-based X line of smartphones and retooling them to run Windows Phone instead to build on the momentum Nokia had achieved in the budget phone market.
Even though this is very unfortunate, but this impact would be affected world-wide. also 12000+ affects nokia employees. If we can believe Sata nadella’s comments – microsoft will help them to even finding other jobs. if the lay off is conducted in a fair manner – it won’t hit hard.
This is the problem with working with big brand names – they hire and fire the people without any specific reasons. it is all the part of their corporate game for making big profit by sacrificing the worker class people.
Satya nadelle is ultimately an indian – and whenever he got power – he proved that he is such an idiot without any thoughts on the company reputation, and protecting its employees who worked hard for the company over the years.
The management without any vision only cause like this. poor employees. -The solution is Better to start something by your own other than working for someone. especially on coming days – if your experience is more than 10 years, IT companies may not interested in you because of two reasons – your paycheck may be more, and you won’t be able to contribute as much as the freshers can do ( because of your family, other priorities, and age ofcourse).
