A few weeks ago, Many Techies has got forward mails about a wonder girl- A teenage girl from kerala named – “Hannan Binth Hashim”. The news was about a prodigy girl, who is appreciated by many well known scientists and graduated from ‘NASA’ by the age of 14. She is calling herself as an astrophysicist and claiming to prove Albert Einstein is wrong!!!. A lots of discussions were made among the tech community about this news, and finally here is the truth.
Hanan Binth Hashim is a 14 yr old class X student from Kozhikode, Kerala. There are amzaing reports about her unbelievable achievements on some websites which has created a sort of frenzy on the Indian sphere of the Web. Some excerps from the articles on Hannan Binth Hashim.
* Her works have been appreciated by former President A P J Abdul Kalam, scientists at IISc, IIMSc and many leading research institutes around the world including NASA.
* “I’m already in touch with President Obama and am looking forward to meeting him. He has always been a source of inspiration for me.
* “Absolute Theory of Zero is a new mathematical system which explains the established theories in a different light. Through the theory I’m trying to explain that the speed of light is not constant always,†she explains.
* Hanaan believes that the conditions in Venus are conducive to sustain life.â€Scientists should overcome the atmospheric challenges of Venus and should be willing to probe more. Like Mars, which we believe can sustain life, Venus too is a promising planet,†she said and added that the scientific community should accept that the universe is constantly changing.
One website screams “SPEED OF LIGHT IS NOT CONSTANT!! NEW THEORY BY 14 YEAR OLD INDIAN GIRLâ€. Another says “Hannan Binth Hashim: A 14-year-old with astrophysicistsâ€.
Let’s try to analyze the Hannan Binth Hashim phenomenon, is she an astrophysics genius or nothing more than stupid media exaggeration.
1. There’s nothing called “IIMScâ€. Probably they meant “IMScâ€. See how credible media is.
2. Why haven’t any reputed science journals/magazines published about her theory yet? As Wikipedia would do it, Citation Needed – atleast from one of the IISc journals.
3. Where is the proof of appreciation by A P J Abdul Kalam, the scientists at IISc and Barack Obama?
4. As far as I know, there’s nothing called “American Journal of Theoretical Physicsâ€. If it exists, probably it’s a homebrew journal.
5. “Hanaan believes that the conditions in Venus are conducive to sustain life. “Scientists should overcome the atmospheric challenges of Venus and should be willing to probe more. Like Mars, which we believe can sustain life, Venus too is a promising planet,†she said and added that the scientific community should accept that the universe is constantly changing.†I am a firm believer of extra-terrestrial life, but you shouldn’t take my personal opinion of life on pluto – just like that. We, as human civilization, don’t have enough knowledge about the planets in the solar system to say whethere life-as-we-know can exist there or not.
6. Is she into astrophysics or theoretical physics?
7. Isn’t Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology competition open only to US nationals?
8. As reported in June 2009, “Astrophysics and 14-year-olds may seem like a ‘paradox’, but the future and present will co-exist when Hannan Binth Hashim delivers her lecture on astrophysics at Universities of Boston, Chicago, Texas, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and 17 others across the world. Hannan’s six-monthlong cruise will begin this July.â€, is there any video of her lectures?
9. “Absolute Theory of Zero†sounds like a name right out of the imagination of an uneducated comic book writer.
Hannan Binth Hashim looks more like an average class X student with a great interest in science, esp Astrophysics, who also happens to admire A P J Abdul Kalam and Barack Obama, and probably quite active in science seminars and projects at Kozhikode – but nothing more than that. 98.9% of her achievements seems to be media manufactured.
We congratulate the entire blog/tech community, who took this issue, and made researches and proved the truth behind this hoax.

Hanaan…go ahead..good luck!
Hello Hanaan..
I wish you good luck in all your endeavours.
Way to go…I hope you will gain more heights..
Arnab
I wish you all sucess in life,,
Asik,Das V.P,Arnab and Bazim are same person. still the cheap publicity…. if you look in to the time which the comments are posted, they are almost in the same time, only differs a minute…
Even if you said good luck from different ids, truth is truth and Hannan binth hashim is a total fake story. nobody can deny that.
i am an ex-student of her school.i dont agree with all of u who believe hannan is a hoax.it is because i’ve heard her speaking.she is such a nice girl who lead a normal life.
The way she talks:even our school teachers find it difficult to understand.ofcourse it is a wonder that a 15 year old being a scientist.
but we students hav seen her certificates and all other things she has achieved.
i dont hav good knowledge about the topic.
but i believe in her…..
she is our pride……
if u all think this is a big fat lie…
can anyone of u oppose her views with enough proofs?????????????????
i personally think hannan is a genious.
please dont tease her….
actually we have to congratulate her for bringing the topic into
notice.
i wish good luck for her .
vidya, where you actually studied with Hannan?
I’m her class mate, and everyone knows she is saying something in her dreams, but that is not the science. She is making some statements like there are extra terrestrial life in Venus!
Anyone can make such a claim, with out any proofs. even I can say there are aliens in our universe and they are staying in pluto.
And please read about the ‘certificates’ and ‘Degrees’ she is having. you have to read the entire story throughly, before making such comments. You are thinking hannan is a scientist because teachers cannot understand what she is saying? even you can’t understand what those people saying in a mental hospital, and you might be saying they are all scientists.
Poor Divya, please don’t make fool by yourself. Science and technologies are not made by the guess or dreams. they should have very solid proofs and basics.
Please DONOT say that HANNAN is a genius, she is just a normal girl with lots of fantasies inside. Science is not a fantasy. you have to show the proofs.
in reply to Aabida..
Hanaan has no class mate named Aabida Suhail..I started with upper primary classes with her..and continued till last few yrs..and If Hanaan has to get a class mate named Aabida..I also should hv got a class mate with the same name, because we studied in the same division.
Aabida, its better not to say something stupid, please check twice, because I have a complete list of our classmates and we can show it through our cross-registration..
Good luck,Hanaan:-)
If one of our classmates is a little more brilliant than others , its normal that the classmates , schoolmates and even the teachers develop a kind of admiration for them . And it is not a big thing that one speaks in a way that is difficult to be comprehended by others , if he/she reads more than others, and when others have almost zero knowledge in that field , it’s quite natural that its difficult to understand . See , the teachers are not scientists and high school teachers are not the last word for knowledge .
you all children , her classmates, naturally may be loving her and adoring her for her talents .
But you should consider certain other facts like ; you are yet to see and feel the scientific world , there are thousands of scientists who dedicate their life to science and do science in “a scientific way” , By learning , contemplating , thinking and rethinking the accumulated knowledge over centuries . Making calculations on well formulated problems using the state of the art tools , equipments , computational power and publishing papers after hundreds of peer reviews and so on so on …..
It’s good and encouraging that children develop a liking for science in the early stages of life . But , before making this kind of news you should rethink , all scientists in the world are not just fools , all have come across a stage in their life like she experiences ,[if she is not entirely fake ], ie; amazed by the wonders of physics , beauty of calculations , thrill of doing physics , an irresistible urge to give “my own contribution ” , something novel and exciting … but all of them have not plunged into this stupidness what she did here ,
Yes , it could be expected from an immature mind , who has been praised by her well wishers , friend circle and all, from the beginning for her brilliance and achievements ,and thus helped her to develop a kind of over self confidence to do all these .
What I have to say is , wait , be honest , please don’t be over excited ,then you will lose on the way , but be patient and diligent . Later you will see the world of physics , more than that philosophical facts which excites you , you will see the underlying structure , what physicists have achieved through years , then of course you will have your own place here , the not so fair or not so easy place . But be patient ….and please try to respect those great minds in a honest way . you can give a breakthrough some day …. wait…
well said kamsandh.
science and scientific world is different than the one which high school people think. understand that fact first. i can see some comments from her classmates/schoolmates and they believe that she is doing something extra ordinary. may be. but that is not up to the level of scientific theory or experiments, or anything to appreciate in that level.
hannan is just a school kid with an interest in science or astrophysics. thats is quite natural, and not very common in students in her age. but what others are doing is, they are hyping the factors and connecting the best scientific institutions like NASA with her. they even dare to publish that foolishness in comments like – “NASA is going to use the hannan’s rocket (LOL) in their next MARS mission”. see how stupid you people are??
also i can see, another fact in this. since she is a muslim, a big muslim sentiment are pouring in this issue. they are just thinking like she is a muslim, and let’s support her or just sprad her glory without understanding the facts behind it. i’d seen this same issue in many forums and what they are saying is its a miracle of allah, may allah give you all the strengths to go forward. i have a humble request – please never mixup the religion with science.
anyway, this is a very interesting and thought provoking story. if she is talented, the time will prove that. but she has to travel a lot in her path. she has to study science and acquire the qualifications for that first. let her know more science mathematics and the scientific world. then work on that, learn more and try to understand the science, then come up with something. till then this funny story will be on her head and career, and she will be like a buffoon in front of the world
Hay Hannan I am vijay from Patna . I wish you sucess in your every dreams & science projects .
