The first Nitrogen-Filling facility at an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) retail outlet in Kerala is inagurated next to the mega office sites of Infosys campus.
Filling nitrogen in the tyres of four-wheelers and two-wheelers would improve mileage, keep tyres cool, prolong life of tyres, provide better grip, enhance safety, reduce the frequency of checking tyre pressure and eliminate rim rust.Nitrogen has been used for years in the tyres of racing cars, large commercial trucks, aircraft and even space shuttle.
ndian Oil chief retail sales manager Ullas M. Kamath, Indian Oil senior divisional retail sales manager Shaji Xavier, Technopark GM (Tech) K.V. Rajendran and other senior officials of Indian Oil and Technopark were present on the inaguration.

The truth is – Nitrogen filling does not provide any perceivable benefits unless your car constantly drives at speeds of 200+ Km/Hr. Nitrogen filling is recommended for racing cars and fighter jets 🙂
Coupled with the cost of filling and the lack of filling stations, the advantages are minimal.

But i’m using nitrogen for the past one year. it gives me better comfort and reduces the frequency to fill the air.
btw, what is the charges for filling nitrogen near technopark? ( 4 wheels )
Filled nitrogen in my car tires yesterday. Let time tell me what are the benifits :-).
First time:
2 wheler – Rs. 15
3 wheler – Rs. 25
4 wheler – Rs. 75 (small ones)
4 wheler – Rs. 100 (medium ones)
4 wheler – Rs. 150 (SUV etc.)
Top up:
2 wheeler – Rs. 5/-
Others – Rs. 10/-
so it is costlier. ok we are awaitin for the feedback from you ninthsense.
I ma using nitrogen for the past 1 year and I can say it has some benefits
1. Smooth .. better than air
2. less heat : I always travel long journeys and the tyre dont gets heated up for long runs
3. Increased mileage. Mine is an alto I can see increase in 1/2 km
1/2 km????
I think he meant 1-2 kms. 1/2 km do not make any difference 😉
First time filling nitrogen charges is as follows:
2 wheler – Rs. 15
3 wheler – Rs. 25
4 wheler – Rs. 75 (small ones)
4 wheler – Rs. 100 (medium ones)
4 wheler – Rs. 150 (SUV etc.)
Top up:
2 wheeler – Rs. 5/-
Others – Rs. 10/-
How we will distingush small, medium cars???
For eg. Zen and Wagon-R come which category???
Raju, thanks for sharing the information. I will try it for my car next time. but i have a doubt. if once we fill nitrogen in tyres, can i topup normal air when i fill it next time?
or i need to do the process from scratch ?
Normal air contains about 78% nitrogen so no problem if you fill normal air instead of nitrogen. However the benefits of nitrogen won’t be there. My question is that manufecturers recommend tyre pressure figures for cold tyres (making an allowance for increase in pressure during running) so when you fill nitrogen tyres would remain cooler, what should be the ideal pressure for nitrogen filling?
Operating tires at the incorrect pressure is the primary cause of uneven and premature wear. Some reports suggest that nitrogen-filled tires maintain their pressure up to three times longer than non-nitro tires.
Everyone agrees that to get the best gas mileage from a vehicle the tires need to be properly inflated to reduce rolling resistance and maintain optimum handling. Unfortunately, many drivers don’t check their tire pressure often enough and end up driving on under-inflated tires which reduces fuel economy.
