Organic Farming In Technopark

Six months of hard work later, one acre of barren land behind the Technopark Club has been converted into a fertile land. Club officials and techies of the IT park toiled hard to plant and cultivate 200 saplings of plantain using organic manures. Technopark CEO Mervin Alexander inaugurated the harvest of the 200 bunches of bananas on Thursday.

He said: “The farming of plantain was a great initiative and also a stress buster for the professionals from their hectic work. Such initiatives also bring them closer to nature and make them more responsible towards conservation of our environment. The initiative had a great response in the campus and we plan to come out with more such initiatives in the future.”

With ample support from Park Centre, Technopark Club House officials headed by the club’s Chief Administrator Shashidharan Nair and the Chief Coach for Swimming, Chandrakumar, undertook the first of its kind farming programme inside the campus.

The objective of this initiative was to promote and build awareness about organic farming among the community. The group harvested around 200 bunches of bananas of three varieties viz. Nenthran, Robusta and Rasakadali.

Shashidharan Nair said: “We saw some great response and support from techies of the campus to take care of the farm. Employees from various companies came forward to mend the orchard and we are extremely happy of the outcome. The event was a feast to the eyes and delight for the hearts of those who made this programme a success.”

The bananas harvested are being offered in an open sale to all the techies of Technopark at discounted rates.
