The Hi-Tech Cell of Kerala Police has served notices on eight online piracy sites that offer new Malayalam films, and inquiry is on to find out the IP addresses of the culprits.
 While most of these sites have removed the links of new films such as “Urumi,†“Christian Brothers,†and “August 15,†these films are still available on Torrentz.
 Most of the sites such as YouTube.com, Ashmagic.com, focuskeralam.com, go8pm.com, and bharatmovies.com have removed the links of the new films. The police are yet to get a response from the Torrentz. Since Torrentz is a file-sharing network and works on peer-to-peer contribution, it will be difficult to get the details of those who uploaded these films.
 The culprits will be booked under Copyright Act and Information Technology Act 2008. Uploading, downloading and distribution of unauthorised data are punishable under the Act. The culprits will have to face imprisonment of two years and will have to pay up to 2 lakh as fine. They are also liable to give compensation up to 1 crore. The police took action based on the complaint of Producers Association and producers of the film “Urumi.â€
