President to launch Technocity on October 27

TechnoparkToday.Com>> Kerala IT’s most prestigious dream of a satellite IT City – Technocity in Trivandrum was announced a few years back. On October 27, 2017, Government of Kerala will see the realization of this ambitious dream when the foundation stone for the first government IT building will be laid by Hon. President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. With the takeoff of Technocity, Trivandrum will emerge as a hub for emerging technologies in the country.

“Today Technopark’s Phase 1, 2 and 3 collectively employ over 100,000 IT Professionals. Once Technocity is operational we foresee additional 100,000 employment opportunities from leading and upcoming IT companies in Kerala especially in the areas of futuristic technologies. Technocity is a very important milestone for Kerala IT to strengthen its presence in the IT Map of the World and the Kerala Government will facilitate everything to ensure this.” Said M Sivasankar, IAS, IT Secretary, Govt. of Kerala.

The first IT building coming up at Technocity will be a signature building with a built-up area of 200,000 sq.ft with four floors is expected to be operational by 2019 to accommodate the demand for more office space from large number of SMEs located in Technopark to expand operations. The government has completed the acquisition of the 400 acres required for Technocity project at Mangalapuram. One portion of the project (300 acres) has been set aside for IT and IT-enabled services and the remaining 100 acres will be dedicated to set up a Knowledge City. This is envisaged as ‘Centre of Excellence’ (CoE) for future technologies like Cognitive Analytics, IoT, Cybersecurity, Block Chain, e-Mobility, and Space Science.

“By setting up centres of excellence to promote research and development, we hope to gain early lead in emerging technologies and become a major hub in this area with focus on technology-based products. We are on the lookout for an academic partner for the Knowledge City to promote new technologies and to facilitate business collaborations for startups.” Said Kerala IT Parks CEO, Hrishikesh Nair.

Leading IT organisations such as TCS, SunTec, IIITM-K, KASE, etc. have already taken land for development at Technocity.
