Richard Stallman in Trivandrum, Kerala- A Free digital Society

TechnoparkToday.com(Jan,2014): Richard Stallman will speak on “A Free Digital Society” in Trivandrum, Kerala on 16 January 2014 at 11.30 am. (Tentative venue: Mascot Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram.)

His lecture is being organised by Kerala Union of Working Journalists and Society for Promotion of Alternate Computing and Employment (SPACE). His lecture marks 10 years of SPACE, a collective that promotes free software for social development.

Stallman’s speech will focus on issues of digital surveillance that undermine the foundations of a democratic society. To commemorate the occasion of GNU completing 30 years andSPACE 10 years, the free software community in the city will hold an exhibition on free software and free knowledge. The exhibition will be held on Education Freedom Day, which falls on 18 January 2014. The exhibition will focus on free software and free hardware for education and privacy protection. Various free software groups like Fedora, Mozwomen, HackerSpace will present their free knowledge initiatives.

  1. Another guy is coming to kill software industry. Richard Stallman is a great oppressor of programmers.Programmers write the code and give it away while living off crumbs. Marketing, sales, and support organizations make all the money, and its the reason he advocating free software. Truly genius!. Industry is depending upon revenue. Hope the intelligents will ignore his talks. Patented technology is the best, at least it has value….

  2. Stallman wants the programmers to give the code free of charge. Will he advise to sell the talent behind marketing, business intelligence or anything. He is saying programmers can charge money, but should distribute its source code. Source code is the heart of any software. Let the programmers, decide whether to give the software free or not, and its not stallmans choice… hhaha..

But still you have to understand that most of the popular and daily using software are based on opensource – android,chrome,firefox,linux,php and what not? the best performing systems are always built on the opensource software – it is not just giving the source code free – you have to read and understand about it….
