Shock has not left us since we heard about Soumya’s murder when she was travelling on a train. However we cannot lock ourselves up in our home to be safe. We need to go out, work, travel, run daily errands and live the life to the full without any fear of personal safety. This prompted Arun B Nair, a budding entrepreneur in Kerala to start a public portal for personal safety.
Aptly titled, Swa-Raksha is indeed the society’s answer to Personal safety. Both men and women share their experiences, crisis moments and even safety strategies here. Swa-Raksha.com is Kerala’s first personal safety portal and it comes with much of the most needed information on personal safety. This is a no profit endeavor which aims at promoting personal safety. Swa-Raksha is the Corporate Social Responsibility endeavor of Parivartan Corporate Training Academy, the pioneers of experiential learning and personal development.

WOW, this is what the society needs at this juncture! An awareness website which sill help people to conenct and share vital safety related information. I am sure that once the website is fully developed it will play a major role in spreading saety awareness for both men and women. All the best!
What I feel is that women should start fighting back. For this they need courage and practice.Home is the right place to practice.Do not succumb to any types of intimidations and threats from drunken or bullying brothers or husbands.Learn how to resist from home itself. These criminals who are interested in the weaker sex are mostly half nerved fools.A good shout or a sharp stare will unnerve them further.Whether the society is going to help you or the law will find its way , they do not have to care.Fight it out.Women eat less junk food, most do not smoke and do not queue for colored spirits. That means you are healthier
They should remember the women of Egypt , Lybia etc confronting huge monstrous tanks. If they fight for justice and fredom why our women of same species shy away from fighting petty criminals.?
It is indeed the violence at home that affects a lady more than the attacks by strangers. We Indian women are bought up in such a way that we cannot attack in return when husband/brother/dad physically abuse/attack us. Frozen by shock, all we can do is shed a few tears and pray for things to improve. Even in educated societies wife beating still continues, latest being the wife beater Indian diplomat who got the benefit of ‘diplomatic immunity’ and avoided an arrest in Britain. The matter has been a shame for India, and still nothing has been done about it. If this is what is happening to even high profile, educated, bold women – what could be the plight of millions of ordinary women out there? All we can do is to work together to prevent such tragedies. Let us start helping each other, spread awareness about rules, learn a few safety tricks and maybe learn martial arts 🙂 I think we need forums like http://www.swa-raksha.com to bring such issues to the forefront, stay together and be powerful!
Thank you for giving a space to open up. Violence against women starts from home itself. My request to mothers is that instead of sending your daughters to dance classes, send them to learn some sort of martial arts. Learning of martial arts should be made a part of the curriculum in schools. Many a time it is seen that women themselves are enemies of women. We have to join hands, work together, to protect ourselves and others.
