TCS Trainees Drowned at Meenmutty

TechnoparkToday.com>> October 3, 2013: One died and body of one went missing in the Kallar river near Menmutty waterfall on yesterday. The victim was a member of a nine-member gang, who are trainees in TCS, Technopark. They met with the tragic incident during a picnic on October 2.

Mahesh Kumar, aged 29, a native of Haryana and Atul Yadav, aged 24, from Rajasthan are the victims. While the police managed to fish out the body of Mahesh an hour after the incident, the body of Atul is yet to be recovered due to hostile weather condition. Search for Atul has resumed today.

The spot of river near the waterfalls is highly dangerous. Several accidents have occurred in the past. According to media reports, Atul swarm towards the foot of waterfall which is around 10 feet deep, despite warning from life guard. Others were at safer spots. Soon, Atul was swept by strong undercurrents. Mahesh dived into the water to save him and both drowned.

Due to weak mobile signals, friends of victims could not immediately raise alert. Police and fire force recovered the body of Mahesh by 3 pm, an hour after the incident. However, they had to wind up rescue operations due to heavy rains by the evening.

Meenmutty waterfall is a dangerous spot. In 1991, eight dental college students were drowned at the spot. In 2006, four friends drowned while bathing at the spot. Last year too, a boy died during a picnic with his friends.
