Techies to Trek Agasthyarkoodam as part of Clean up Campaign : An initiative by VSC

Technoparktoday.com>> Vivekananda Study Circle (VSC), the non-profit Socio-Cultural Organization in Technopark joined hands with Punyam Poonkavanam (Kerala Police), an initiative headed by P.Vijayan, IPS, aiming for a ‘Clean Sabarimala’.  VSC has decided to support the campaign through social media as well as directly with the devotees.

Earlier VSC has supported Punyam Poonkavanam initiative through direct and  social media campaign to make Sabarimala a plastic-free zone.

VSC has planned to do the same in Agasthyarkoodam, to make the place plastic free. 42 Techies from Technopark have decided to go for a trekking & clean the Agasthyarkoodam. They will start the trekking on 11th March 2016 by 8 A.M and end it on 12th March 2016 7.30 P.M. As part of the national program swatch bharath, these techies are promoting the go green concept to ensure that Agasthyarkoodam is plastic free. The activities planned are to  collect all the plastics from the forest & handover the same to Bonacaud forest office. The VSC group plans to continue the mission for coming years also.

Agastyakoodam is a 1,868-metre (6,129 ft)-tall peak is the second highest peak in Kerala within Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats of South India. The peak lies in the border of Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. This peak is a part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve which lies on the border between the Indian states of Kerala (inKollam and Thiruvananthapuram district) and Tamil Nadu (in Kanyakumari district, Tirunelveli district). The perennial Thamirabarani River originates from the eastern side of the range and flows into the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.,. Teeming with wildlife, the forests of Agasthyakoodam abound in rare medicinal herbs and plants, and brilliantly hued orchids. A bird watcher’s paradise, this legendary mountain is accessible by foot from Kotoor, near Neyyar Dam and also from Bonakkad. Trekking to Agastyakoodam is believed to be healthy, the very air here is supposed to have healing properties. It is believed that sage Agasthya, the mythological character lived here.
