Trivandrum December 6, 2011 – : Technopark Bicycle Club was launched by the Honourable Kerala Chief Minister Mr.Oommen Chandy today. In all , 55 cycles in blue and white which is sponsored by Allianz were flagged off from Thejaswini building by the Chief Minister at 5 pm.
The ‘Why Not Cycle for a Green Environment?’ initiative was conceptualized by Allianz, Technopark and Technoparktoday.com team after taking into consideration the parking woes, pollution, traffic congestion and the sedentary life faced by employees of the Technopark.
How it works:
Athi’s bicycle club with its unique sms-based cycle sharing scheme has been roped in to maintain and service the cycles. Any employee at Technopark can register themselves for free and avail the cycles at a nominal hourly rental of Rs 2. There are cycles for both men and women and five racks with 10-12 cycles each will be parked across the campus for easy access. “I hope that employees of Technopark would utilize the services to the maximum and pedal their way to good health and eco-sensibility and also have fun while doing so,†Athirup, the founder of Athi’s Bicycle Club.
“This initiative is targeted at making it easier to travel between buildings within the campus. At Allianz, with over 1,100Â IT/ITeS employees and offices spread across four buildings, cycling between facilities will make life happier and more productive “, says Amit Passi, Director and Head of BP, at Allianz.
Need of the hour:
Parking is an all-day problem at the IT Park. Running errands like going to the bank or for lunch outside the campus after having found a plush spot is a harrowing proposition – someone is always waiting in the wings to take your parking space. What Allianz hopes to achieve by introducing cycles is not just to alleviate parking woes but to also promote health and a pollution-free lifestyle inside Technopark.“With this initiative we will take one more step to make our campus greener and decongest the park. We strongly believe that this is a great step that throws light to the techies for adopting eco- friendly measures at various aspects of their lives, insurmountable opportunities thereby giving one aspect of nature a universal grin,†said Girish Babu recently appointed CEO of Technopark.
We thanks Allianz for implementing the long cherished dream of techies and Technopark authorities for sharing the dream,  Athriup’s Bicycle club for agreeing to take on the project and the many CEO’s and employees in the campus for making the event successful.
From today onwards, any Technopark Employee can make use of this bicycles for commuting inside the Technopark Campus. Â Go Green, be Healthy, and Why Not Cycle for a Green Planet?

Great initiative towards an eco friendly concept, but there is another great benefit from this, from now onward the life style related health problems among the IT professionals will be down , well at least in our Technopark.
Other IT parks should take this as a model….

Its gud, but its difficult to send messages everyday to get unlocking code.. Make it accessible to everyone within the campus without any conditions..
Then will you pay for the maintenance of the cycles and related equipment? It is very easy to send an SMS may cost you 50 Paisa. It is always better than catching an auto or walking a long distance. sending SMS is a measure to track who is using the cycles. if there are no such measures the cycle club will be closed within weeks.
