The third phase expansion of the Technopark here will be up and running by the second half of 2011, when the first IT building in the campus commences operations. Kerala IT principal secretary Ajay Kumar said the 10 lakh-sq ft facility had a futuristic design, incorporating the latest trends including ‘green building’ concepts.
Officials said here that the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF), had issued environmental clearance for the Phase-III expansion project.
Technopark has already commissioned a power substation for power supply to the new campus as well as for the adjacent Phase-II campus where Infosys and UST Global facilities are situated. Other infrastructure needs including water supply and facilities for treatment and disposal of liquid and solid wastes are expected to be ready along with the building completion. Officials said arrangements for storage and disposal of electronic wastes were also being made.
Alongside the construction of the new IT building, Technopark is also developing the remaining land within the newly acquired 92-acre Phase III campus. Officials said the area was being allotted to private developers as land parcels of varying extents.
The master plan for the project was conceived by architect Hafeez Contractor, in association with Thiruvananthapuram-based consortium partner Iyer & Mahesh. The majority area of the campus will be a Special Economic Zone, with a small non-SEZ component as well.
