TechnoparkToday.com>> Soon after the gravity of cyclone Ockhi became known to the public, Technopark employees decided initially to distribute meal packet to the affected areas. However, when they reached the site for the distribution, they were shocked by the huge demand for the food as well as the ineffectiveness of distributing a few meal packets. Rice bucket drop – an initiative to collect rice for the affected families, came from the realization that these families need at least a month supply of groceries.
A collective of all organizations in Technopark, led by Biju Sundaran, Shagin Thazheveettil, Diwas Sasidhran, and Arun Sasi- palced huge buckets in various buildings of Technopak and collected 4.3 tonnes of rice in four days in these buckets.
A fund collection was also started for this and collected 3.5 lakhs in a short span of time. The money was used to buy groceries, which was supplied along with the rice.
As many as 500 families in Poonthura were given the monthly grocery kit, each consist of 10kg rice, 1kg sugar, 1 kg daal, 1 kg pulses, 500 g tea dust, 250 g each of chilli and coriander powder and 500ml coconut oil.
The team Technopark, with support of health department and City Corporation, identified the needy families and visited them. The team personally handed over kits to 41 families. The rest will be distributed through the church in Poonthura.
The team told TechnoparkToday.com that they received immense support from Technopark employees for this good cause.
