TechnoparkToday pays tribute to our Father of the Nation

Today, 30 January, is being observed as the Martyrs’ Day, a tribute to our Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.  The man who inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.  A pioneer of non-violent, civil disobedience, pacifist philosophy which made him one of the most respected spiritual and political leaders of the Twentieth Century.

He gave the entire world one of the most powerful weapon called Satyagraha; a method of direct social action based upon the principles of courage, non-violence & truth. “Non-violence is not a weapon of the weak, it’s a weapon of the strongest and bravest,” he said.  Gandhiji believed that the way people behave is more important than what they achieve!  And, his belief is really thought provoking and highly pertinent even now, as we have commotion and perturbations all around.  This is an important moment to reflect on his message of non-violence, which continues to inspire people and political movements across the globe.

Gandhiji, widely known as Mahatma, a title derived from the Sanskrit for “Great Soul” and bestowed on him as an honor by Tagore, is an epitome of doctrines viz. tolerance, universal acceptance and brotherhood.

The following quote by Gandhiji is so inspiring and spurring, “I claim to be no more than an average man with less than average abilities. I have not the shadow of a doubt that any man or woman can achieve what I have, if he or she would make the same effort and cultivate the same hope and faith.”

His teachings and ideals, shared with Martin Luther King Jr. on his 1959 pilgrimage to India, transformed American society through their civil rights movement.  Albert Einstein’s following tribute to Gandhiji speak volumes about this giant of a man, “Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this walked the earth in flesh and blood.”

Time has come for us to renew our commitment to live his ideals and to celebrate the dignity of all human beings.

On the sands of time and in our hearts, great men like him live forever!

Jai Hind!
