Today (18/02/2010) was as busy as any other day at the front gate of Technopark by 09:00 am. I was standing near the auto stand opposite to the front gate and there were 3 other ladies too waiting for auto alongside me.Suddenly couple of autos fled to the spot in a fancy manner and I am sure they are coming from Technopark after dropping our fellow Tpians.
The 3 girls approached an auto driver to go to Thejeswini building. The auto driver said ok and asked them to get in without telling how much he would charge, One among the 3 who seems to be bold and smart enough than the other two asked him how much he would charge, With no thought in mind came the reply as “Rs.40”. The smart girl bargained with him and the auto driver was not ready to come out of his shoes. he still stayed at 40.
I was wondering with the way he responsed and his adamance in not letting the girl to win. Just for a 1.5 km of distance,
– Why should we need to pay Rs.40?
– Is it because we wear the so called tags called “IT Professionals”?
– What is the thought that creeps into the mind of an ordinary man that we are plucking moneys and golds from Trees inside Technopark?
How to tackle these AutomaniacS?
During this thought process of mine, I noticed the argument between the smart girl and the auto driver boosted into a heated one. The girl was not ready to leave her stance so is the auto driver. Finally the three girls decided not to take the auto and the smart girl I was talking about gave the comment as “Since we are technoparkians we don’t eat gold and we are same as any other individual in the society” and the three started walking to technopark.
I appreciated her boldness and courage in my mind. Inspite of her sincerity to work she also made a mark to others(Especially Technoparkians) in that area that we should not pay more just to fulfill our temporary needs. I was happy that she decided and even compromised her friends to start walking to office.
Great work “THE SMART GIRL”!!!!
I was also thinking this would have sent a strong alarm to the auto driver but he seemed not to care on that and his friend gave a comment to him that “Why do you want to bargain to those girls, if they want it they should pay it”
After this, I went to the same auto driver for going to kulathoor and he asked me just Rs.20. I am sure I am gonna travel atleast 1.5 times more distance that the girl was to travel and I was confused why he asked me a nominal rate and then I realized that I was in my casual wear and may not have seemed to be an IT professional in his eyes and also the destination I said made him assume that I am just an ordinary person in that locality. I took the same auto and reached my place for Rs.20.
After reaching home, I was still thinking about the girl’s courage and smartness. Neither the girl did win the argument with the auto driver not did she fulfill her needs, but she stood out in my mind the right person to wear the tag “HERO” along with her company tag.
We really need this kind of attitude change especially in girls to bring out a change in the society!!!
What say guys???
PS: Hey SMART GIRL, Â if you are reading this post, you deserve to be called the “HERO” and many congratulations again for your smart work!!!

Hi,
Whoever wrote this , thank u……
i was thinking me only felt that the auto charges are high….
I too wanted to appreciate that ‘SMART GIRL’, atleast she had shown the courage to bargain with him. Most of the times the scene will be like this, girls\guys will come and sit in the the auto …they wont even ask the charge…..they dont bother…..People should not do like this..at least they should show the courage to qn them…..if everyone starts asking like this they may reduce the charge……
This is not only to girls …to all Tpians….
Auto people are charging like this becoz people are ready to pay..whatever be the charge is…So my request is ‘START ASKING Y IS IT 40?’
Even if it is 40 or 50..people are not even ready to share with…may be to the same bldgn…but not bothered…We should change our attittude….
Few days we all should boycott autos..then only they will reduce the charge..
Like this we are spoiling our economy too….think for 1.5 kms its 40 rs!!!!!!
Really nice to see someone brought up this topic over here……All credits to the ‘SMART GIRL’
@Ziya : you have made a very valid point. As long as there are people to give wht these Autowalas ask they will never be bothered if one or two persons questions them, as you said we should start asking ‘Y Should I Pay Rs.40 ‘
I think Technopark officials should seriously start thinking of implementing Pre-Paid Auto stand in Technopark just as in Railway Stations.
@Smart Girl, Well done, and we wish if everyone would be like this.
The outsiders having a particular attitude towards technopark people. They are thinking that we are making money by sitting in a/c. and why cant you give us Rs.50, because you are earning money like anything.
But we all know what is the truth? IT is squeezing all the energy, health and everything and paying us bucks. nobody will give you money for free. they are driving autos to get money, we are spending our time in front of the screen to get the money.
@Praveen,
you said is right. Technopark should implement the pre paid autos. but this is a request for years, I think. But who will take up this issue? nobody is there to represent the poor IT people. Thats a big question.
‘SMART’ girl, you deserve a big round of applause. Tpians copy her attitude & start reacting. Ask boldly – ‘WHY SHOULD I PAY 40’. Why you guys are hesitating to react if you are wearing a tie / id card. Don’t be ashamed to react when you are sure that you are on the right side.
I completely agree that 40rs/- is unfair. Even if the Technopark authorities implement a prepaid auto service, what will be a rough % out of 25000+ tpians using it. Im sure that it wont cross 5 – 10 %.
Ok you are ashamed / not ready to give out a fight with an rickshaw wala. There are 100’s of Tpian vehicles entering & leaving tpark every minute. Why cant you guys ask a LIFT 🙂 Im sure 99% wont say NO. If every tpian join hands for this, Im sure the usage of auto can be reduced to a larger extend.
I really appreciate the girl….And as Ziya said, boycot of using auto really works…i started using volvo or tech exp which atleast gives money to govt rather than paying ths cheating auto drivers..Mow they are aking Rs.35 from kazhakootam to Bhavani…ths s so attrocious…
Hi,
Nice post and appreciating that girl.
And please anybody can post the latest auto charges from Technopark to nearest destinations? like
Technopark – kazhakkoottam, karyavatttom, front gate, Railway station etc?? so that we can ask technoparktoday to publish these charges and people can use it as a reference. It would be really helpful to every TPians.
Hi
Thanks to ‘Smart Girl’ and “vSimbhu’. Because of them, this topic is here.
In bangalore, techies joined together and started boycotting Auto because of high charges. We can also do the same here if we all try.
Let us discuss with technopark authorities to prepare a reasonable rate chart and publish it so that everyone will come to know correct charges and no will get cheated any more. This can be done in the presence of one representative from Auto driver so that they should also not feel that any injustice has been done.
We are just like other employees so why should we pay this much.
Nisha,
thats a very valid thought to boycott these blood sucking autowalas.
as you said we can deal it by disucssing it with the technopark authorities and auto unions to standardize the rates and publish it in various places in technopark. but the question is WHO WILL DO IT FOR US?
this is a requirement for past couple of years, and we discussed this issues in this website as part of some other articles and other discussion boards. but nobody is there to take an inititative for that, other than the efforts from websites like this article. There is nobody to represent IT employees or come forward to find the solutions for our problem.
Nobody will hear us ( including the technopark authorities, autowalas, or any other instituations ) if 3-4 people go there and request them personally. Also that is not practical aslo, you have to go and discuss with them, followup the issue till the end, and monitor that whether it is functioning well. how many among us can spend time for that, and willing to do that even if we have plenty of time, especially when there is no personal gain from that?
please share your thoughts and suggestions. we have so many issues like this to be addressed.
TechExpress charges for the ride iniside/outside TP. So they need to make it more frequent from junctions.
Earlier TechExpress inside TP was free and we can’t ask more.
Tech express cant run for free. and they are charging very nominal amount also. so nobody will bother to pay them. yeah we need more tech express to conduct the services. and as someone said earlier, why you guys cant ask for a lift from front gate back gate or even from kazhakkootttam, you can easily identify a car from technopark by seeing the sticker or the person with in it with a tag. most of the times there will be one or two people will be there.
so there would be plenty of space in the car, and it can easily accomodate 3 more people. so try this next time. if you are coming to technopark, just ask for a lift. lets see how it goes….
@iyer : U had given a very good suggestion. But how many will do this..? Only few will be ready to give a lift……
And most of them will very busy and they wont even stop! So person inside the car should think about this 🙂
@preetha: keep asking for LIFT until you get one. May be the first 2 person’s won’t stop & the 3rd will stop. The more people starts asking for lift, the more tpain vehicles will get noticed about this act & will think ” Why can’t i give them a lift “. In short until there is requirement nobody cares 🙂
